Fixing VMware Windows 9x errors on new AMD/Intel CPU - 2024

This video was captured on VMware Workstation 17 with AMD Ryzen 5 5600G.
TIP from @kilerek3: you don't have to play with the converter. Just rename file from ".ima" to ".img" and it works fine.

00:00 Symptoms: VMware Windows 98SE installation is interrupted by error messages.
00:51 Convert downloaded patcher9x disk image from ".ima" to ".img". (VMware doesn't recognize .ima image)
01:16 In the VM, add floppy drive and boot from the converted disk image. Patching!
03:40 After reboot, the installation continues till complete without issue.

TIP: you dont have to play with converters. Just rename file from ".ima" to ".img" and its fine.

This worked perfectly fine. Before, I had to turn on settings in vbox. Now just a floppy disk and I can use Windows 98. Thanks

This worked for me too but I also had to disable nested paging in VirtualBox 7.

when i inserted it as floppy drive and boot it again, it just came to a blank prompt and the prompt line or "_" symbol started to fly around the screen.the logo of the app was also weird, it was a dynamite icon.is it because i didnt change it from .ima to .img?

usin virtual box 7.0 and it refuses to work, the patch9x seems to only be installed on a:/windows/system rather than c drive or d drive. getting same issue with windows/system must lead directory
it also kills itself after I try to change the patch9x boot to 98 se
