Always loved Jack's callback to 9th with the Fantastic at the end. Really demonstrates the history between the two.

"Do you want to die?" The literal Doctor was in. If his patient was suffering from immortality, he would help him find a cure.

I like how Jack comes back to life and his first question is "Was someone kissing me?".

4:32 I love how he specifically uses the word "fantastic" here, just to show they still have a connection

4:14 this is my favourite scene in the whole episode and one of my absolute favorite moments of the 10th doctor as a whole. I love how the doctor swaps to this kind of creepy, morbid mode where he literally asks his friend whether he wants to die or not. The doctor always has such compassion and care for everyone around him but there's moments like this where you can see that he's reminded that everything else is basically a lesser species to him, he's a god and a human is just an ant he could squash at any given moment and that realistically they aren't even worth a moment of thought on. But Jack is another godlike creature just like him and so deep down the doctor probably loves to see Jack in that reactor room because to him its an experiment to watch whether he dies or not. I think a simpler way of phrasing this is that the doctor clearly has a sadistic side to his personality, its buried extremely deeply but in moments like this it rears its head. David Tennant being able to swap to and portray this so fluidly is why he is an actor of legendary talent and status.

I always thought Ten's dynamic with Jack was very interesting --- different to anything else I've seen on the show. The Doctor likes Jack and is fascinated and repulsed by him at the same time. And not only do they have a history, but I think Jack being almost an immortal by this point puts him and the Doctor in a unique position to relate to one another in a way they could not back when he was still an ordinary human.

In this scene, you can see the darkness in the Doctor's eyes as they speak. He looks a bit sinister... almost villainous. Lots of people cite scenes from Family of Blood or The Waters of Mars as David Tennant's scariest moments as the Doctor, but personally there's nothing more chilling to me than the cold and detached way the Doctor asks Jack if he wants to die, and the look on his face as he presses his forehead against the glass. The Tenth Doctor is the most human of all the incarnations, but he comes across as so otherworldly here, in a decidedly creepy way.

I love how Jack can keep up with the Doctor for a change. Most of his companions are just following but him and Jack were in sync.

Nothing like watching Jack and the tenth doctor running down a corridor

The greatest crime ever was not having Derek Jacobi run a full season as the Master.

The Russell A Davies run had such deep lore so quickly, there referencing stuff that Happend two seasons ago like its ancient history

I love how the doctor speaks about how if a timelord absorbed the Time vortex he’d become a God,

The Doctor held Godhood for seconds when he saved rose from it and instead choose to Die and regenerate rather than hold onto that power because he knew that no one especially him should have the power of Godhood.

I know Jack supposedly aged into the Face of Boe, but I like to think he saw the length of the universe several times over and is out there at the end somewhere. Maybe he even helped the Toklefain once Doctor sent them back through the paradox rift

This scene might actually have been peak Doctor Who without anyone ever realizing.

Listen to the music It's a mix between the Electro Guitar riffs from torchwood and the orchestral from Doctor Who

The way the doctor smiles when he realises Jack *gets* it... It really is chilling, somehow Tennant managed to mix oh-so human joy with this... unknowable, eldritch satisfaction, like... You know exactly what he's feeling in that moment, you even know why, but you can't *comprehend* why.

There is so much depth in David Tennant's acting. He goes from savior, to curious observer of the man he knows is cursed like himself. To sage storyteller of not so long ago, but so long ago. To shooting the shit with a friend. To a silver lining feeling, to a constant reminder of regret. To finally my favorite, the deep question of immortal life. It's a cheat for him, but a fact for Jack. A cure in the impossible always becoming possible through the endless dance of time.
