I love how much is happening in this scene: the Master slowly regaining his awareness, Martha reacting to Rose's name, and Jack contemplating his immortality with Ten. Let alone the actual plot point of Jack servicing the station under radiation.

"But this lot. You see them out here surviving. And that's fantastic"
I love it.

Love this chat. This is someone who was born almost immortal talking to someone who recently became immortal. The implicit understanding they have of each other isn't really seen in any other pairing.

I fucking love that half-crazed smile The Doctor has throughout this scene. It's a good reminder of the morbid/twisted side of his personality.

This shows one of the things I liked the most about the tenth doctor, he always had chemistry and familiarity with everyone. The eleventh doctor was so cool and so amazing that he seemed apart from everyone else in the room. Not that he didn't get along with his companions, of course he did, but not in the same way Tennant does. At least I feel that way. Here you have two men who have both lived a lot talking, and it's interesting because they have a natural and honest conversation. Not something about saying the coolest shit possible or showing off how amazingly smart you are at every single second, you know?

Well played.

When the doctor asks about whether he wants to die and Jack says Fantastic. He's making a reference to Nine as it was his catchphrase!

I love how he imitates 9 at the end when he says "Fantastic."

Utopia was the first episode of Doctor Who that I ever watched and this scene was the one that made me fall in love with the series. David’s portrayal of the Doctor, the chemistry between the Doctor and Jack, the simplicity of the scene but also the depth. Gosh I miss this...

It's very hard NOT to like Captain Jack // John - and also sad how BBC won't bring either Torchwood back to the screen, or give John another Doctor Who romp with a new Doctor.

Anyone else think Jack and the Eleventh Doctor would have been instant besties?

Is it just me but it feels like we never got these playful natural conversations in the post Moffat era. There we only got like fun one liners, exposition and conversations that felt like it were for children.

I just love how good of a person Jack became after meeting and travelling with the Doctor.

"I oughta go meet myself."

Actually, no. You died in New New York in like the year 5, 000, 000, 000 CE. But yeah.

Arguably the best scene between The Doctor and Jack. They converse like true friends. Too often The Doctor's understanding of time and space makes everyone around him naturally deferential to his judgment, while Jack teases Ten with his "prejudiced" crack. The Doctor gets to share some of his pain about Rose with someone who knew her. Then Ten gets serious again, asking his friend if he wants relief from his suffering. They share a moment of shared perspective on the struggles of regular mortals, relieving the Doctor's anxiety over his friend's plight. They can return to their back and forth, with Ten at the end giving a weary, honest laugh.

I like that when he said fantastic his accent changed a little bit

Earlier in the episode Jack mentions getting stuck in 1869. So that he means he has to wait 23 years to find out he's immortal. He suffers a lot more than any character in this show (Probably barring The Doctor) and he only minorly, if at all, complains about it.
