Being obese in the past definitely made me scared to bulk, it’s all mental. I had to come to terms with the fact that I needed to gain again to build muscle and now I’m heavier and leaner

I'm someone who doesn't even like eating that much, struggle to bulk, I'm just jealous of the bloat lords whose only problem is they have to decide whether to cut or just keep getting stronger lol

man I've been following you since the bear mode years and honestly I just want to say how awesome it is to see how you've gained a veteran status inside the natty fitness space. Every video that you drop is a certified banger, with years of knowledge, error and trial and experience. Keep it up Alex!!!

Starting my 2023 bulk very soon, great timing Alex.

For the past year I've been plateaud at 15% body fat. I've been trying to cut lower to give myself a "buffer zone" for my later bulk. No matter how hard I try, I can't get leaner.

You've convinced me to start a bulk anyway. Even if I get fluffier by the end of it, it just means I've raised my setpoint. My next cut will get much leaner because my new 12% weight will be my current 15% weight....if I even get there to begin with

4:02 You hit it on the obese part. Used to be extremely fat, 120kg at 14 years old. (5'6/167cm)

Last year July at 17 yrs old ive reached a normal weight. Started bulking VERY VERY CAUTIOUSLY, the smallest weight jump scared me into a minicut💀. In the span if 1 year on the bulk, ive done 2 minicuts (4-5 weeks each) out of fear. Thankfully for the most part, ive gotten my eating disorder in control, and now happily Bulking. I dont even track my food as much :)

The power is in the bulk, my cut right now has been pretty crazy for me, just hit my front lever and the planche is getting there, I got videos from a year ago, my strenght from the bulk has been tremendous gains, bulking and cutting is the real truth. Legit at 5'8 and 169lbs and hiting that front lever while also hitting a max set of weighted pull ups of 40lbs at this weight, man.... the gains don't stop bro they just don't lol.

There's some growing going round here!

I was literally watching "The power of adding one rep" when you dropped this, too much wisdom bro!

Edit: for me personally, bulking has gotten SO much easier over the years. I know when to add foods and certain strategies, I was a hardgainer skinny guy with abs too, until I discovered Alan Thrall years ago. That man put me in a bulking mindset like you wouldn't fucking believe.

Right on, brother. I'm excited to bulk this next part of the year. I hit 220lbs/100kg for a single earlier this year on bench, but haven't made any progress since. Simple, hard dynamic double progression will have me repping that in a few months. I believe in everyone's potential here. We all got this!

Great points. Currently bulking up from 220-250. I'm super excited to hit 250 and go into a bulk phase 🔥🔥💪

Adding the weight as a previous obese person has spooked me until recently. I've never been at a healthy, heavier weight. My nutrition for so long was abysmal. Now, I'm excited to gain weight with my current plant dominant nutrition. Alex, your videos have helped a lot. Thank you for existing, it's truly appreciated.

Bulking starts off as a fantasy. All that food. It slowly becomes an overwhelming slog as you have to micro manage so many elements of your life to accommodate it.

Cutting on the other hand is like a Konami cheat code

Bulking while lean rn is the best momentum I ever had with training. Great sessions and looking good. I regret not cutting before!!

I would say yes. I don’t even track to these days. Going into a bulk in my current snapped up state would be asking for fat gains and potential bing eating due to the high stress.

Keep it up man! Guys like you give me the motivation to come back stronger than ever

Love the video game analogies! Good to see these references after spending all those hours on RuneScape during your death cut 😅

Dude, are you really 5'5?? That is insane! I am also similar in height and was skinny until I started working out and bulking more seriously. I didn't know that someone of my size could put on this much mass, you give me hope. My current goal is going from 125 to 130 and eventually 145.

Thanks Alex. I'm that guy that used to be fat, and was afraid to bulk. But this year, I pushed through and just threw caution to the wind. Went from 87kg to 103kg from Jan to now. A little too fast I know, due to ill-discipline with my diet but have seen awesome improvement in my strength. (110lb DB's for 10 on shallow incline). Building these arms to 18's! **The going beyond comfortable levels of fluff is exactly where I'm out now. Very relateable.

Alex’s huge pressing numbers with T Rex arms in every video make us orangutan arm bros feel bad, but thanks to his wisdom, we know our pecs and tris will be bigger if we reach the same standard for reps with good tech. Thank you brother!

I have the opposite of this problem lol. BUlking has gotten easier and cutting is much harder. If i'm not cutting I gain weight by default, can't even maintain, and cutting is torturous. Funny enough I was skinny and shredded as a teen like you too, 120lbs at 5'8 at age 18, complete hard gainer, but now at 25 I just gain weight like crazy and have no trouble eating.

My appetite increases when I start lifting weights but I still have to make a conscious effort to eat when I am able to. The problem most guys have is not that their stomach gets full too quickly but that they wait until they are starving to eat instead of eating right when they are able to. That's like waiting to get dehydrated before drinking water.
