Zenless Zone Zero Review

Zenless Zone Zero is easily the most stylish entry in HoYoverse's fast-growing catalog of free-to-play RPGs.

Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) is HoYoverse's third game launch in four years. You'd think that HoYo's formula would get stale with yet another free-to-play gacha RPG dropping just 15 months after the release of Honkai: Star Rail, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The developer has managed to create another familiar but distinct gameplay experience by once again learning from past missteps to deliver a game that is both iterative and innovative at the same time. The downside here, however, is that ZZZ puts several new and interesting elements together but forces you to spend the most time with the least interesting of the bunch.

Imagine if these very talented developers made a non-gacha game

Something like this should've been a single player offline game...with online modes added on eventually. Basically like Granblue relink or persona.

Dude if this was just a single player game, online mutliplayer, traditional charscter unlocks, and a more fleshed out combat system with jumping, juggles, air combos, etc this could have been near perfect

I really wish hoyo would make a full premium game. These are always fun but I just don’t have the time to keep up with these never ending ftp games.

game should've had a jump, juggling enemies in the air, platforming etc would've been so peak with this aesthetic. could've done some real cool dmc gun stuff too.

the game just looks like you should be able to wall run and jump lol

"All in the smaller package in terms of world size and scale of locations."

Needs 110 gigs just to install.

The game have very good art style, animations and smooth combat. Main issue is just that there's BARELY any fighting gameplay, you just mainly skip through dialogues and TV screen "puzzles" most of the time you play the game. I'd say Honkai Impact 3rd or PGR gameplay are ALOT better, they just have older engine and graphic

Looks great. I just wish these games didn't require you to log in every day. I just can't play a game I have to keep as a second job haha

my first impression of the game definitely feels like something between Persona 5 and Blood Blockade Battlefront

If Wuthering Waves didn't just come out I'd say ZZZ has flashy combat. But compared to that. ZZZ combat seems very basic.

I enjoy the game, don’t mind the TVs, combat is like other gachas in terms of difficulty, but in this case flashier so I like it. Cool designs. Will play it along with wuthering

*Can't use pulled characters in the main overworld, as a gacha*

Yeah, instant skip.

Honestly I’m glad that it is not like wuthering waves, and is doing its own thing. Not every game needs to be open world exploration.

Game almost 80% tv..Zzz truly living up to its name

the combat gameplay looks great makes me wish it was an actual single player experience and not a gacha game that is destined to die without an ending to the main story line....

The combat time needs serious improovements. You waste 50 minutes in between screens to get in a fight that gets resolved in 2 minutes.

Is the combat repetitive to anyone else? All I'm doing is pummeling the enemy until either a: the enemy attacks so I can do a swap counter or b: my special skill charges up and I mash that a few times. And every once in a while I use my ultimate. I'm just watching my special bar go up and the enemy HP/Daze bar go down while spamming RMB. There is no depth to it.

For the first time after those many years, Mihoyo finally learned how to display damage number properly.

The Asian RPG classic: hitting a moment late in the game where you're all of a sudden required to be great at using the mechanics you never needed up to that point 👌
