It's a bit of a outlay of cost but you can find small hand presses that apply metal snaps and eyelets depending on the die set that you get for them. I bought one as a smalltime crafter of bjd clothes because I got so fed up of hand sewing on snaps. (I used that thing for a good 10 years. I still have it but I stopped making so many clothes.)

They are also less stressful on the joints than the kind where they're basically fancy pliers.

I understand that you're already past this point, but for future reference,
try an epoxy and make sure the back of the buttons have been sufficiently scratched up with something like sandpaper.
You're having a bonding issue between materials, epoxy should work around that.

Do you make these by printing the design onto one solid piece of felt? Or stiching/gluing printed fabric onto a felt back/core? If the latter I have a suggestion for any similar future products, but for now I'm glad you went with the safe option!

You should use a sew on snaps. That or use the metal snaps can a symbol of the one that that are on like your jeans sometimes that snap.
