Do NOT be misled, V90 cards WILL allow you to film ALL formats in these cameras. XAVC HS 4K, XAVC S 4K/HD, XAVC S-I 4K, XAVC S-I HD, XAVC S-I DCI 4K ALL film perfectly fine with the V90 SD Cards in normal movie mode. The max bitrate is 600Mbps in XAVC S-I 4K (Roughly 0.6 Gb per second) plan card size accordingly.

Where you run into trouble with V90 is when you switch to S&Q and try to film in XAVC S-I 4k (1200 Mbps or 1.2 Gbps) and XAVC S-I HD (890 Mbps or 0.89 Gbps) the camera simply won’t let you.

Getting a few 256Gb or 500+ Gb V90 cards and then one or two smaller 160Gb CfExpress Type A cards for those perfect XAVC S-I Slow motion clips is more reasonable, cost effective and logical in my opinion.

There have been other videos that show that on the FX3 and 6 the S-I actually introduces more noise in images with less motion than the long gop files. Which makes sense as even with a high bit rate it's still needing to compress down each frame. So for corporate work with talking heads and simple b-roll, it feels like S is the way to go.

With FX 3 you can shoot on v90 sd cards in all intra 50p 4k. A 256 GB Card gets 1 hour and 6 minutes video. This is the Best option for that Camera beast. Its offers good quality and no Problems on the Computer With editing and playing and mouvements are better.

Thank you for this video. I tried all the format myself and thing it really depends on your project what to use. Long Interviews in XAVC S 4K 50p 150 Mbit/s 4:2:0, short clips in the new format XAVC HS 4K 50p 200 Mbit/s 4:2:2 10 Bit . Ofer all I am disapointed that a Cinema Line Cam like the FX3 does not have XAVC.

Every time I shoot in 10 bit I'm going to convert the footage in Prores 10 bit 422 to make it editable in Davinci free version. In this case is it better to shoot in XAVC-HS than in XAVC-S?

Talking head videos like yours, you don’t need Xavc S or HS. But doing outdoor filming detailed scenery or action (movement) the quality difference is noticeable i only shoot XAVC SI. Huge files but its worth getting the higher GB cards for it.

I have an older Alienware M15 r6 and it works fine with XAVC-HS h.265 4:2:2 10 bit using Premiere Pro without proxies. I'm going to take a chance and shoot an extreme low light project in HS. Wish me luck! 😨

Can anybody help me figure out the main differences in terms of quality, compression and weight between MXF files coming from a Sony FS5 and XAVC coming from a FX30 as I am considering doing the switch of camera.
I want to know how much my editing workflow will change with this new codecs.
