Absolutely! Very rarely does one brand come out with a camera so much better it is worth the hassle and cost to switch.

It should be very good. I just mentioned that it is shipping soon for Canon and Nikon at $899 in the US. Considering recent sigma lenses 18-35 f/1.8 and the 35 f/1.4 I expect this to be equally excellent.

Good question- I did just add my link to recommended lenses for Nikon cameras- I touch on some options in that video(linked under video above). There are certainly alternatives but you do have to pay more for them.

I agree with you. And 60p is nice but probably not a deal breaker for many. We do still need to recognize that the body only price is decent and someone with an existing collection of lenses may want to upgrade. . but for most moving up to the D7100 would be smarter move.

I would be tempted to go D5300 if you plan to use manual lenses and want that clean HDMI out. Go 70D if you want to use the amazing autofocus.

Great video... Really appreciate all the work you put into those videos!

No it was the 70D. Sorry if it sounded like I said 7D. And the 70D is quite close in sharpness but not there.

you could always cover the logo with a little black gaffers tape :)

What type of photography will you do? I don't care much for the 100D unless you really value a slightly smaller camera over features like articulating screen.

In My opinion the 70D gives you the best value there and lets you save money to put toward some fantastic zoom lenses. But to be honest I don't have lots of experience with the video cameras- I am primarily a DSLR guy photo and video. I watched both #70 and #71. I will take #70 please - that view is beautiful :) But didn't see anything that the 70D couldn't do well. And it is more family friendly too.

D7100 has headphone jack, clean HDMI out. 70D has kick butt autofocus. Which is more important to you? I have videos showing these two cameras side by side and their features- feel free to watch and inform yourself.

I don't think it looks more toy like - they are trying to keep the size down for the moms and dads with enough to carry and for those people it is a nice blend of size and performance. The rest of us can throw a battery grip on and have loads more grippy space.

Those Sony's are nice but pricey - almost 2x the price without a lens. You ok with that cost? You looking mostly to do interior and exterior video tours?

I am familiar with HSS - never heard it referred to as Auto FP, still not sure what that stands for.

For the business yes, but because properties are farms and ranches there is a landscape and livestock element to be featured and also very often machinery and implements. I have been trying to bring moving pictures into the videos with the little Sony DSC-H55. Property #70 and #71 on my 'Hoskens Rural Real Estate Brokers' youtube channel.
Also will shoot for my family videos and want to experiment with wild-life shooting on our ranch. GoPro/Sony Action Cam already going to be part of arsenal.

You brought up a good point about the 18-55 kit lens. DXO said that even the kit lenses were 30% sharper in the 7100 than in the 7000. If the 5300 DOES have the same sensor as the 7100, it might not have been such a bad idea to offer a package w/the 18-55 (and optionally the 55-200) to keep prices down. They offer the two lens kit with the 3200 and it sells well. Very strange decision on Nikon's part there.

you forgot to mention this is the best consumer grade camera in the world at the present time. The output from this camera can be summed up in one word "Stunning".

I plan to get this as my first DSLR when I make a trip to the US next month.

Would you suggest any good lenses to go with it? I'm no professional but I'll have enough time to get to know the camera well (the trip lasts almost 4 months). And I'd like to have more than one lenses option for landscapes, etc.

Is there any good alternative too the kit lense (18-55) ? Should be around the same zoom range (and size of the lens), but of course better quality...

It does not but neither does the 70D. Nikon D7100 does have headphone jack.
