Liked the video, Keep your son involved with your work, it will be these little moments that you both will remember long into the future.

The problem with the "old" benches is that you need shelving over them for storage, test gear etc, which gets in the way of good lighting. Your island bench doesn't need this, so I would suggest 2 or 3 lamp units suspended from the ceiling (maybe raise/lowerable) with nice big diffusers, right over the work area. With you on one side of the bench, the camera on the other, the key light can be on a tripod to one side of the camera a 60 degrees or so to the subject.

Another idea: the work top is going to be at Sagan's head height soon, it would maybe be an idea to router or plane a chamfer on the edge of the work surface, just in case he (or anyone else) accidentally hits it. It will make the corner less prone do being damaged and damaging boxes etc.

God forbid anything ever happens to Dave. His poor wife is going to have a huge task on her hands getting rid of everything that he has amassed over the years. Usually they don't know the value of these things, and let them go for cheap. Seen it many times before. To a long, happy, and healthy life for Dave! :-)

I so wanna have a beer in that lab with you, just nerding out over all the gear and outdoors activities, and computer programming, and well, having a cold one. Would even take up the clean-up of the space after having one-too-many beers in that space.

Give my best to Sagan and Mrs. EEVBlog, and keep up the good work!

Cute kid. My little guy loves visiting my shopping the basement. He loves playing with my cordless drill. Have you considered putting a shelf (or two) below the table for storage?

You've got a nice family there Dave. You're a lucky man!
I bet the new bench will work out great after some tinkering.

Could be a tear down bench for the bigger items. Could also be used for photography since you have the sides free in reference to lighting.

But realistically...you're gonna fill it up with stuff. :)

I would go completely nuts in no time if my workplace was as cluttered as the EEVBlog lab ... The new bench is really nice, though. :)

Dave, I thought that when you asked Sagan to say oscilloscope he would say CRO!
That would have been awesome. Beautiful kid by the way.

I really enjoyed the high speed video, shows the exact order of assembly and your son was a real treat. I subscribed when I was considering a small scope. I purchased an OWON SD55032E but I cannot remember my reasons now. Played with it for 20 minutes, six months ago, got busy with other projects. I purchased it for analyzing el cheapo stepping motors.

Dave a couple of suggestions: Why not build some under bench shelving? That way you could make up for lost storage space and hide some of your goodies there. Also for a photography box/ backdrop why not cobble one up out of poster board the foamcore stuff and you can get away with it cheap.

the eev blog logo sign would look great on the wall where you was going to curve the bench up.

Lol, the cut scene happens because Dave gave the wireless control for the lights to Sagan, should have included that bit!
