Ratchet & Clank 1 Review | HD Collection (PS3)

Ratchet and Clank, first released for the PlayStation 2 in 2002 by Insomniac Games, is a three Dimensional Jump ’n’ Run, Action-Adventure video game. I had my first contact with this back in 2004 as that’s when I got my first ever console; The PlayStation 2, which came with a few demos of various games, including Ratchet. I was aware this series existed, but never paid much attention to it, as I was occupied playing Jak and Daxter by Naughty Dog. So I decided to take a look at this game and bundle my thoughts in a video review.

As a man who loves Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and Sly Cooper....I’m glad I bet on the right horse as to what my favorite series is. That being Ratchet and Clank. I thank the stars that Insomniac Games never gave up on the franchise and continued making games all the way through the PS4. And while I love the originals, I love a lot of the PS3 titles too. I’m hoping the series will have a game on the PS5, and with the PS4 game selling like hot cakes, there’s a good chance it might.

The graphical glitches is because the original PS2 version was only designed for 4:3 and from 2 onwards it could be played in 16:9. They just kinda hid stuff off screen without removing it in R&C1. I think the HD version looks better in 4:3 for 1 anyway. The same with the frame drops, that's a ps3 issue, the ps2 version runs fine.

The cool thing about the Yikes (Amoeboids) is that you can turn them into a chicken in their big form and they won't split. You can also use the O2 mask to negate the spray from the soldiers and the tanks. Another cool thing for the original ps2 on Blackwater City, you can get the hologuise and wave to the hoverboard race and run around breaking boxes on foot.

The Metal Detector isn't a bad way when running through levels to buy the RYNO to grab a few extra bolts on the way.

Minor nitpick, you say 7 points of nanotech but it's actually 8.

You missed the most emotional scene tho aside from the ending, where Clanks mum tells him she's already proud of him.

How old are you? Bc my 2 most nostalgic games were also Ratchet and Clank & Jak and Daxter, especially TPL 😇

you need to activate ghost ratchet to bypass it because if you activate ghost ratchet the game thinks your dead and there is actually a path to complete the boss without either you do ifinite long jumps or use ghost ratchet and then go out of the map and find a path to the infobot without having to fight the boss

Ah I remember this as being one of my ps2 mascot Games. I just wanna say for one I personally enjoyed the clank levels but I understand why people would hate them, and for that ratchet only lvl I couldnt help but miss relying on clank and that honestly makes you realize how much the two need each other as a team. Lastly I wanna say that I had no idea about getting extra health lol, guess I didn't explore enough even tho I always tried to. I ended up beating the game with only 4 health and I'll tell you now that when going back to ratchet planet at the end to save it I had rage quit moments lol. But hey I really liked your review on this and talking about the entire Game cause most people reviewing don't normally do this. You should consider doing 2 and 3 as well, and maybe even sly cooper too?

I think that issue with turning around fast and slow is to do with using the ps4 controller, because i think i remember experiencing that same problem

Aside from Skylar & Plux: Adventure On Clover Island, there is a game similiar to Ratchet & Clank called Iconoclasts which is developed by Joakim Sandberg. Gameplay wise, it's similiar to Ratchet & Clank but there's more to Iconoclasts than being a "2D Ratchet & Clank" game in terms of the story. I already covered the game for the GamesMaster magazine as a reader review, the Tomb Of Ash website and The Vita Lounge magazine.

I've played this game for the first time in 2002 when I got my PS2. I absolutely love this series. Wish they'd remaster the HD games or make a new game.
