CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Juno (Ellen Page) tells her parents about her plans for adoption and the couple she is considering as the adoptive parents.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
When a teenage girl is faced with an unexpected pregnancy, she enlists the aid of her best friend in finding the unborn child a suitable home in this coming-of-age comedy drama from Thank You for Smoking director Jason Reitman. Juno (Ellen Page) may seem wise beyond her years, but after sleeping with classmate Bleeker (Michael Cera), the pregnant teen quickly realizes how little she really knows about life. Thankfully, Juno has been blessed with parents (J.K. Simmons and Allison Janney) who trust their daughter's judgment, and a best friend named Leah (Olivia Thirlby), who's always willing to help out in a pinch. With a little help from Leah, Juno soon comes into contact with Mark (Jason Bateman) and Vanessa (Jennifer Garner) -- an affluent suburban couple who have been unable to conceive a child of their own. Mark and Vanessa seem like they would make great parents, and are eager to adopt Juno's unborn child. Now, as adolescent Juno is faced with a series of very adult decisions, she will draw on the support of her family and friends in order to discover who she truly is, and discover that one bad choice can have a lifetime of consequences.

This is what good parenting looks like, at least to me. They were disappointed that she was irresponsible, but respected her decision. You can’t just scream and yell at a teen who makes mistakes, they’re growing. They immediately were willing to support her without question.

I adore the mother in this film so much

I love how her parents are clearly not okay with her being pregnant, but still support her decision to give the baby up for adoption and even make sure she's taking care of herself and the peanut along the way. Also, Simmons and Janney are awesome!

This is a very realistic look into how a conversation like this would really go, disappointment with underlying support.

"I was hoping she was expelled or into hard drugs, anything but this. That's what I was thinking! Or DWI!" hahaha

As a dad, I love that last expression as he acknowledges that his desire to blame the wussy creampuff that knocked up his daughter just didn't hold water. Fabulous stuff! :)

This mom was the best mom I’ve seen in a movie.
Both parents were amazing.

When her dad said “I thought you were the kind of girl who knows when to say when” like every other young girl who never wants to disappoint her dad, that absolutely crushed her but she also
Understands that she had a giant laps in
Judgement. I mean what dad of a HS girl is ready to be a pop pop?😂This scene is absolutely as real as it gets and the acting is stellar.

Man rewatching this as an adult is so much more rewarding. "Mac, come on you know it wasn't his idea."

This reminds me of when my older sister was 19 and she told our parents she was pregnant it was my dad’s birthday and his response was…”you could’ve just given me a card”.

It was an unintentional pregnancy but everyone’s attitude was “okay, what can we do.” Something that all loving parents should do.

wow. That’s poignant.

Both of her parents have now won Oscars!!! They’re so great! Two of my favorite dramatic/comedic actors!

Allison Janney and JK Simons have been some of the hardest working/relaible character actors for years across film, television, and animation. Both their Academy Award wins brought me so much joy as they are some of the finest actors out there and have been so for decades.

A precious blessing from Jesus in this garbage dump of a situation.

Cannot imagine anyone other than JK Simmons and Allison Janney in those roles. They're always perfect.

1:34 One of the best pieces of direction is that moment after the girls run up the stairs where Allison Janney’s character sets down the notepad … seems realistic to what a married couple would do in this situation - like she’d know her husband is gonna need a moment she’s just waiting for it

I love Allison Janney and JK Simmons as the parents in this film. They're both generally great in anything, but this was gold.

If he’d found out Spider-Man was the father, he wouldn’t be so laid back.

This, to me, is part of what made this film so unique. As genuinely funny as it is, Diablo Cody (the writer) wasn't afraid to take the movie in more realistic and emotional directions. And all of the actors here were just wonderful.
