The thing is, the holes at the bottom also give additional airflow, taking the baseplate off, completely blocks the flow of air, there's still some airflow in the back, but its really advised to have all the airflow possible to reduce the chance of overheating.

It looks awkward sitting horizontal with a big round rubber plate hanging off one side and i figured removing it would be more sleek and open the airflow. Unfortunately seeing that underneath is hideous and not a bunch more small holes, this saved me the effort of bothering.
