Makizushi, which is a type of Japanese sushi, predates gimbap. Sushi has a long history in Japan, with the earliest forms of sushi dating back over a thousand years. The use of fermented rice with fish was one of the early methods of preserving fish in Japan. Over time, sushi evolved, and different styles, including makizushi, emerged.

On the other hand, gimbap is a Korean dish that has its roots in the 20th century. Gimbap was influenced by Japanese sushi but has distinctive Korean flavors and ingredients. It became popular in South Korea and eventually spread to other parts of the world.

In summary, makizushi from Japan has a longer history, and the concept of rolling rice and ingredients together likely influenced the development of gimbap in Korea.
ps: i meant no harm with this comment i just found it interesting

As a Japanese, Makizushi and Gimbab taste completely different. Gimbab has the sesame oil and the Korean seaweed, sausage, marinated veggies and It’s really flavorful

The origins of gimbap are debated.[12] One commonly accepted theory suggests that the dish is derived from the introduction of the Japanese sushi variant makizushi to Korea during the Japanese occupation of Korea. During that period, Korean cuisine adopted Western food and drink, as well as some Japanese food items such as bento (dosirak in Korean) or sushi rolled in sheets of seaweed.

김밥은 일본 노리마키에서 유래한게 맞지. 옛날 김밥 기록보면 노리마키처럼 식초가 들어갔었음. 그러다가 점차 참기름으로 바뀐거고.
