Overcoming 40 year fear of cats

My glamma has been afraid of cats for 40 years and today she attempted to overcome that fear 😅

I was not scared of cats when I was little. Even have a picture of me petting a cat when I was little. I used to go to neighbours house to see their kittens. I had stuffed animal cats.
Something must have happened to start my fear of cats. I remember when I was over to spend time with my neighbours cats, that they acted differently and more aggressively. I think that can have caused my fear. I was scared of those cats ever since that day and I could feel that they weren’t nice at all.
I have met cats that I’ve become to like, but since I have my bad experiences I know cats can be really mean.
Also I have spent summers in Greece when I grew up and those wild cats are terrifying to me.

I understand how she feels. I used to be terrified of dogs after a teenager let his dog chase me barking and snarling when i was 4 or 5. If I saw a dog I would scream and cry until it was taken away. It wasn't until I was 12 that I finally was able to overcome that fear, and I did so in the exact way this woman is. Exposure. I started off with a family friend's very small Yorkie, got comfortable with him, and within one night I was playing with him on the floor and carrying him around! (RIP Casper, you were a good boy). Now, I'm saving up to get my very own dogs, and I'm happily confident and content around all kinds of dogs of every breed, shape and size.

I'm still a bit iffy with cats, though, as I really don't like when they try to climb on me or sit on my lap. and I hate the fact that they have such sharp claws and seem to just scratch for no reason. I understand dogs. Dogs are predictable. Cats are not predictable at all. But I am in no way afraid of cats, I can happily pet them and be around them, I just have to stay stood up so they don't try and sit on me, because I hate that lol

Understandable. I had fear of dogs before cuz I was chased by it and scarred me. Not until I adopt one and we had become friends for life🎉

This is literally me. My fear of cats has interfere with so much in my life. I’m 25 years old and I would like to get over my fear. I am finally to the point where I can look at pictures of them without cringing.

I have a cat. Yes he can be a bit vicious with his claws and teeth but he is so adorable and loving ❤

I'm scared of storms and the sound of aeroplanes flying over my house (I don't know what it is called)

The tail of the cat tells me that it's quite wary of the woman! Is it really a good idea to put a woman with a cat phobia in the same room as a cat? You're not just stressing the woman out, you're also stressing the cat out.
Cats are also curious, the more stress noises you make, might attract the cat to you.

I think the best way to overcome fear of cats is to first introduce them to kittens (1 month old or smth).

That's how both me and my mom, changed from fearing them to pretty much obssessing with them
