Adding WAY TOO MUCH Magnetic Field to JBL Charge 4 Driver

The JBL Charge 5 portable bluetooth speaker was just announced in 2021 but it's predecessor, the JBL Charge 4, still has plenty of power. In fact, the main driver is fed with the same 30 watts as the new JBL Charge 5, which also has a separate 10 watt channel powering it's newly added high frequency driver.

Most of us have seen drivers with additional magnets glued to their backs, one example would be the JBL Xtreme 2 drivers. In this video I'll be testing if there's any effect by simply attaching some magnets harvested from old speakers.

Neodymium magnet in driver is stronger than these ferrite

That jbl small neodymium magnet is as powerfull as those two ferro magnets on there

A few days ago I wanted to see what would happen and I'm so happy that you did this

Doesn't have any effect, proper adding magnets are n-n s-s to have it stronger, thats why they glue it... The way you did is n-s or s-n.... No effet at all. 🙂

Welp at 2:20 That was an Auto Audio subwoofer that was shown in the top right corner and it was a Ascendant Audio SMD (Steve meade designs) Version 2. He had his hand in creating his own subwoofer line A very very strong 5K Rms subwoofer.

Also measure the frequency wave, impedance (ohms law) and xmax (linear travel) of this tiny subwoofer. Once you start stacking magnets on that thing I'm sure you know adding more magnets doesn't necessarily mean you can start adding more power to it. I'm sure that tiny voice quill can only take so much heat dissipation for power.

REMEMBER there are tons of YouTube videos of JBL speakers being interchange with different type of subwoofers/speakers Auto Audio Brands and home but every time someone does something like this no one tells exactly what the stock speaker impedance is and what actual power it takes putting out. Too low of an impedance can damage the amplifier and the inside and guess what bye-bye mosfet chip, blown capacitors and those blown tiny Transformers. JBL has always been an excellent brand for a very very long time but everyone has got to remember modifying text time and precision and you have to know exactly what you're doing. "It takes power to make Power"

I really hope all this makes sense.

Some of JBL products does not warranty this type of "modification" as they call it.

I doubt much strength was added as the existing system is designed to concentrate the field in the gap and doesn't have too much stray magnetism. It probably protects itself somewhat from external fields interfering

Sound comparison from the first JBL charge speaker to the last with the same config would be cool I guessh.

В чем смысл лепить магниты если на котушку не попадает магнитное поле, мало того катушка из-за этого может перегреваться что влияет на звук

Thanks Audio Curiosity, this was at the back of my head, but now it's over ...im finally free

I’d you wanna add more power using magnets the coil has to actually be connected to the magnet you might think adding on top will work but no the coil has to be touching it

Holy. I can't believe it, this experiment is works! I will try this on my Diy speaker system. Thanks dude, I really love your experiment like this :)

At first I thought that it's a car's "engine rev''

It would be cool if you made a speaker box for the monster driver you made.

i'm not sure if charge 4 woofer has any metal enclosure on the magnet, but if it didn't, the magnets would have some influence on the characteristics of the speaker

I’m watching it while using a charge 4

You have to flip the magnet so that it repells from the speaker, in order for it to work! To make it permanent, you have to glue them together. I've tried this on a regular sub, and it makes a difference!

that really wont do much, you would need to extend the coil all the way out to the end of those magnets

Woofer - _-
+2 magnet = very good bass rip driver
