How can we increase the strength of a bar magnet using a piece of steel? Why is it stronger? Created by Brit Cruise.

Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

The strength of the magnet remains unchanged. All you do is get more metal closer to the magnet, utilizing more of the magnetic field or whatever to exert a greater force. This is like if you use a rope that is too weak so you use more rope and say you've made the rope stronger. I don't dislike the video in itself but the title of "Increase strength of magnet" is misleading and makes the video a big letdown.

Do you know the difference between bar and horseshoe magnets? Category should be NEEDS Education.

He should have tested the 2 magnets connected around the handle first to show the affect of rubbing the magnets together. But, thanks for posting anyway.

To make a stronger magnetic field wouldnt you just have a stronger electrical current of electrons or protons?

That cheating you not increasing the strength of the magnets you're taking two magnets that I have a strong magnetic bond with each other in a weak magnetic bond with the metal buckets and surrounding the bucket handle and lifting it cheater cheater cheater cheater!!!!

I thought that they would demonstrate a Halbach array.
They did not.

Thank you mr Khan,
Can I talk to you personally, I am Sukhbir Singh facing some problem to magnetization and demagnetization for my repairing work Shop

The only way to give more strength to a magnet is to put MuMetal glued

what did i have to do to get this stuff
im seriously considering switching platforms now, i just wanted to find out what the exact process is of magnets becoming demagnetized after hitting
all i got was recommendations for "one man one jar" (why is that even on youtube now???) some horrific gore videos and kids shows....
