Serious faults on UK driving tests | 10 ways to fail your test

The footage on this video is either from real practical driving tests or mock driving tests.

Typically a serious fault on your driving test is something which is either illegal or dangerous, and when we say dangerous we typically mean something would result in another vehicle having to do one of the 4 S's (Slow, Steer, Stop or Swear).

Regarding mock driving tests please be advised I am not a DVSA Examiner, as such I may not make the fault under the correct category, however the fault would most definitely be a serious fault and result in a test fail.

I think it was a serious fault. A car could have been coming up his side at high speed and he would have had no idea.

I failed in the last 5 minutes of my test today due to judgement-meeting. On the way back to the test centre to finish the test, there were parked cars on my left so I moved out so I could go and as I didn’t see anyone coming I went but the my view was restricted because there was a garbage truck and I couldn’t see the vehicle than came in front of the garbage truck so I met the vehicle half way through the street and the invigilator said I should have stopped earlier and made observations before going. I personally don’t think it should be marked as serious because if I had stopped earlier (again neither me nor the invigilator so the vehicle) I would have been marked serious for hesitancy as the road was completely open aside from garbage truck and parked vehicles which was very far away about 150m away. I lack experience and knowledge like the invigilator but I genuinely believe if anyone else was there they would have gone too because it wouldn’t make any sense to wait and see if there are any cars when view will be restricted Anyways. And honestly I didn’t like how the invigilator made ill mannered jokes when I told him I was nervous. He said “ are you having and off day or something” as we were about to finish which make me even more tense and nervous because all I could think was that I failed but at that point I hadn’t. I could complain for days but hope this helps for anyone taking the test soon and best of luck. I am going to have to wait and rebook and only God knows when that will be

That lane change was definitely a serious fault, I remember a few weeks after passing my test I panicked and did the same thing and there was a BMW in the other lane! By some miracle there was no damage to either car!

Absolutely gutted. Failed my driving test on Wednesday, I got so nervous I couldn’t even pull out of the test centre, kept stalling, I had to ask to terminate the test, luckily I managed to rebook today but it’s knocked my confidence massively :(

I personally thought the serious a the stop sign was a little harsh because slow to a crawl to see if anyone was coming but hey I’m probably wrong if I am then I’ll happily have it explained to me

Interesting to note number of errors made by qualified drivers. Regarding the amber light, another instructor on YouTube timed this and it was 3 seconds before red appeared. It was the same no matter the speed limit.

Damn, I failed yesterday on the dual carriage way becuase I didn't put it in gear, I revved twice and took me 3 seconds to recover, didn't stall and no cars were around me, then a truck came out of the petrol station near sainsburys, so obviously I slowed down and went to gear 2, however my examiner said I put it in gear one and made the car pull itself, but I was aware and checked my mirrors. I kind of found it unfair because I knew what I was doing but hopefully I'll pass the next time
