Sun Wukong’s most unlikely ally in Black Myth: Wukong is totally unexpected and might catch you off guard, **HEAVY SPOILER WARNING** Believe it or not it’s Erlang Shen, the powerful god who defeats Sun Wukong in the beginning of the game. Even after “killing” him, Erlang Shen ends up helping Wukong with his true goal.

Given the celestial court also treated Erlang like shit, killed his father and imprisoned his mother and siblings I imagine he would understand Wukong’s plight being basically a slave to western heaven’s whims

Makes sense. They made it seem like Wukong died but Wukong can’t be pierced and he’s invulnerable to lightning ⚡️ ect so those who didn’t read the novel would think he did die from getting hit with Erlang’s spear

In matreyas journal entry, erlang struggled to even say that wukong was dead and it is implied that he killed two celestial soldiers because they were talking trash about him. I wish we got to see more of them being friends instead of enemies.

For those that know the story JTTW before this, you would have guess it, because in the novel Erlang became ally already and Erlang story would tell you more why Erlang hates his uncle so much the Jade Emperor, yes that's his uncle!

After getting the true ending i immediately started a new journey to rewatch the intro. It was a perfect representation of the wheel of life

I believe the dialogue during fight and after he always kills you gives hints to this! He kept saying stuff like it takes a heavy toll to bare the weight of his mind I would know... and other hints like good good you do have some of his old spark! stuff like that. He knew I was coming and just sat there waiting and admitted disappointment he had no warm drink ready on the mountain. I believe the challenge of the fight in their true forms (as far as this games story) is what Erlangs " payment" or "reward" was.

If you fight erlong he says why he helped. As well as says you're not him which hurts. But it's cause he admired wukong as his greatest rival he had a lot of fun with. They even would take breaks in fights to drink together.

In wukong's world there are two types of heaven and gods, there is west heaven (budhas and bodisatvas)and there is the east heaven ( the place where erlang shen work), these two heaven are far apart in terms of behavior, the budhas are temperance and the east heaven are full with pleasure seeking behaviour, when wukong become budha wukong sided with the budhas, that is why the east heaven forced wukong to work for them in fear that the west heaven might use wukong to destroy the east heaven in the future, thats why the destined one are guided by the budhas to revived wu kong, the two heaven are in some cold war situation

Erlang Shen didnt go after Wukong because the Jade Emperor commanded him, it was because he saw it as a good challenge. He has no love for thr celestial court and saw thr perfect chance to stick it to them by unbinding their greatest nuisance

I think Wukong didn't know that the headband was still on when he left Heaven. He left because of how the celestial achieved Immortality which makes him question the Buddhahood, which he said against Erlang in the fight at the beginning "Immortality... For that word, all realms and beings have ruined themselves." the dying part was planned after he knows the Headband still on him.
