I had a chance to watch one in 2006 and was awesome. As darkness began to set in the chicks around went under the hen to sleep. Those in the path of the total eclipse just observe the animals around.

The cloud cover is the big unknown. Just because you're in the path of totality doesn't mean you're going to get the best experience. Be flexible and willing to drive on the morning of the 8th.
