Ferrari is one of the most iconic car companies in the world- or at least they were. How they make their money is unlike any other company in the world, and will change how you see the brand.

Honestly if Enzo was still alive, he'd convert his entire lineup to SUVs if it meant keeping the F1 team fully funded.

most people seem to forget that Enzo is only interested in racing. He’ll gladly sell pick up trucks and SUVs if it meant he could race in F1 and Le Mans. This is someone that sold his company to Fiat just to have money for his F1 and Sports Prototype teams in the late 60s.

Enzo was willing to sell the entire road production company to Ford as long as he could run the racing team without oversight. It was never a "Car Company" it was always a cash cow to finance the racing team. Who cares if they make an SUV or even a pickup truck, as long as the racing team still wins championships.

“Tifosi” in italian is actually used just to mean “fans”. It’s only literally the Italian translation of “fans”. Yes, it etimologically comes from typhus, but it’s not used that way

Growing up, I thought owning Ferraris were the closest thing to immersing yourself in motorsports without being a professional. The more I learned about them, the more I realized that it's more like a status symbol. The Ferrari experience lets you think you're part of their inner circle, but to them, you're just another customer.

Jay Leno, who is a huge petrolhead and has a massive car collection, doesn't own even 1 Ferrari.
When asked why, he answered: ''Ferrari makes great cars, no doubt about it, but I can't stand their elitist company philosophy, where they treat their paying customers as if it's a privilege to buy their cars. Compare them with how McLaren treat their customers and you'll see what I mean.''

They’re gonna make so much money with the F1 side of their business this year. They have a great car with two racers that are model level attractive, super likeable, and REALLY great race drivers. LeClerc with that upscale Monaco vibe and Carlos with that racing bloodline. They’re legit the face of what Ferrari is.

What people tend to forget is that Ferrari has always been a racing company first and foremost, with a street car division to pay for their race cars. Honestly, Enzo wouldn't care what the street car division did as long as they're still racing

How perfect that Ferrari makes something called the “FU Vehicle”.

It always was about making money for racing. Every penny, every cent of profit had to go to the racing team. Enzo would only marginally take part on the development of his road cars, mostly to make sure things went to be how he wanted. Not that he didn’t care. His road cars still had to be better than the competition. But it was a mean to something, not the goal.

Fun fact: the “cavallino rampante” badge is actually an overprice, an optional added only under request. The money earned from it went directly to the racing team. Everyone wanted it, everyone requested it to proudly display it as a trophy, and Ferrari was making a ton of money with a painted piece of metal.

At least that was how it used to be. I don’t know if it’s still like that today

They're definitely aware of the irony when they named the least ferrari-like ferrari a "pure bred"

There are two teams that represent formula one through decades of dedication and passion - Ferrari and Mclaren. They are racing teams selling sports cars to keep racing.

They are not there to sell more road cars or energy drinks.

Here in Italy we usually say for Ferrari:

Loser in F1, best production cars.

Winner in F1, worst production cars.

Ferrari: you have to be invited to purchase our cars
Also Ferrari: you can't buy a Ferrari unless you already bought a Ferrari

Before even watching this episode: Ferrari NEVER was a car company. It was and is a racing team that was forced to make some cars and then some branded luxury goods to sponsor the racing team.

Ferrari was the first car I recognized by name as a child, in fact it was the only brand I knew and any red fast looking car was a Ferrari to me lol my stepdad had a Pontiac Fiero and I swear I felt like the richest kid in the block lol 🤣

You missed one critical part: Scuderia Ferrari was founded as *the factory racing team of Alfa Romeo* in 1929. Old man Ferrari was effectively hired to run the Alfa's racing team until they decided to part ways a few years later. And in one of life's little ironies, Alfa Romeo (Sauber) is now a Ferrari customer team in F1.

Enzo Ferrari used his cars to finance racing. That's what the company is still doing today (although using different methods).

Enzo Ferrari: I dont care about selling cars I just wanna race
Ferrari now: no you can not by a la Ferrari you dont meet our criteria
Also Ferrari: take that wrap off your car you own or face legal action.
