Layman's terms on why use HSS:
1).It's a bright day
2).You need your model facing away from the sun (no squinting)
This creates unsightly shadows which we want to eliminate but we still want to retain a shallow depth of field
For a wide aperture we need a fast shutter speed due to the bright conditions
Using HSS we can overpower the shadows without losing shallow depth of field and without overexposing the natural light

Come to Tasmania! Joking aside...I LOVE using HSS.. I think everybody should know and understand it if you're charging people money. The more you learn and the more you know the more value you have.. I tend to be a nerd when I love something. I fell in love with photography two years ago and I study every single day. Now after 2 years I'm outshining a lot of local photographers. And they're actually asking me questions on learning new tricks and techniques. Learning high-speed sync is just having another tool in your tool belt

I've started using the Godox AD600 and the Godox X1Ts on my Sony A7r2 for high speed sync. It works beautifually and I use it exclusively now.
