Thanks to ASUS South Africa for sending over the Maximus IX Formula motherboard for me to check out. Thanks, also, to Wootware for sponsoring the GPU, CPU Cooler and the rest of my test bench!

A 5 year old kid can overclock a cpu, but my grandmother can't open the Internet browser

5.0 GHz by just adjusting the multiplier, maybe, but is it stable running at full load for sustained periods of time? That's what really matters in the real world usage.

This video is epic on so many levels. Awesome to see you encouraging your child bro. Good Job.

From personal experience with my 7700k just take care with any automatic voltages the motherboard may try to set. Had a feeling my motherboard was trying to brick itself with just the XMP profile enabled when it set VCCIO and SA voltage into the red automatically (didn't even cross my mind it would attempt such a thing, knew i'd have to set up the Vcore myself, but that was a real surprise). The problem was remedied before I left the BIOS and it eventually needed far less for stability. I couldn't crack 3000mhz on memory either (but then again I was simply trying to run it at the advertised settings 3200mhz 18-18-18-36 at 1.35v. Settled with 2800mhz 15-15-15-35 at 1.35v, just really seemed to hate any higher frequency (only adjusted latency downwards when I realised I wouldn't hit my freq target, probably could have loosened to get stable but I won't lose any sleep over it). I don't need high performance memory so no great loss, it's still "mildly" overclocked.

Cracked 5ghz stable at 1.335v but have settled for 4.8 at 1.235v for daily use. Real chuffed, then again I didn't use Skylake where I think the most disappointment in going up to Kaby Lake may lie. I'm using a H115i and getting about high to mid 70's under stress testing at 4.8ghz. Was getting mid 80's (with a few peaks into high) at 5ghz with more voltage (incase you haven't tested an AIO water cooler yet). People are getting far better temps after de-lidding, but since I have never done so and only have two kidneys (and i'd like to keep it that way) it's not for me despite the understanding on how safe it can be with specialised tools. What can I say i'm not the adventurous type. However, it could probably make that air cooler more viable for those higher freq's.

I'm using the MSI Gaming M7 Z270, even has a little nob you can turn and it will automatically dial in all the settings for an OC... However, their manual also contains a disclaimer that it can brick your PC.... seeing the overzealous voltages any auto setting gave me, i'd absolutely hate the idea of using that for any extended period of time, nice gimmick though. Combined with the heat Kaby Lake seems to be able to put out though, might serve well as a room heater.

This time is so much more valuable than sitting your child in school.

I know I'm late to the party but I just got an i7-7700k last month and I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm using the stock cooler for now so I'm only running at 4.2ghz. I had 8GB DDR4-2400 when I first put the system together. I just upgraded to 16GB DDR4-3600 and I got a noticeable performance increase. With the 2400mhz RAM it was taking 12 seconds from the moment I pressed the power button until when Windows 10 had finished booting up. Now with the 3600mhz, it takes 7 seconds to boot!! I built this PC to power a VR headset. With the 3600mhz I am seeing 10 to 15 fps increase in most games. I was only getting 60fps with the 2400, now I'm getting 75fps with the 3600. My headset is 72Hz so 75 fps is perfect, I'm saturating my display.

Great dad! UFDisciple, you should dedicate a channel about dad and son tech time. Cheers!

Such an easy processor to overclock especially if you have a new Z270 motherboard. My Asus one came with presets for a 4.8ghz overclock, one button and bam, a basic 15% overclock.

I'm just as impressed with you as a father as I am with you as an over-clocker. Well done Buddy :)

That kid's going to kill it when he's your age. Imagine the hardware that'll be available by then haha.

I’m 12. 6700k successfully overclocked to 4.6ghz and verified with aida64 for 8hrs goin for 4.7 next! I have an Asus mobo and for some reason sometimes when you apply new settings, it won’t post. Just restart it until it works.

I overclocked my boost from 2.8 to 2.9 (keep in mind its an i7 5500u which is much harder to overclock)

if you run cinnbench you should always go into task manager and set its prority to high so background stuff doesn't interfere. and delid seems to help the 7700k a lot i had a huge drop in temp after i had mine done
