5GHz overclock on i7 7700K retail sample - possible?

I try to overclock a Kaby Lake Core i7 7700K CPU to the mythical, golden, magical 5Ghz.

Watch to see if I succeed or fail in this endeavor! :) (SPOILER, I succeed!).

7700K 5.0 Ghz at 1.352V
90 Degree during Prime95 with medium Fan Speed and Low Pump Mode (Corsair H115i).
Non - Delid /// No Liquid Metal Paste

With the delid tools available now it's a piece of cake. The hard bit was getting the heatspreader off with the scalpel without slicing your fingers (or the silicon) open. Now it's just clunk, click, done.

My 7700k delid w/ LCU is currently at 1.3v running at 5ghz with peak temps of 60C on a Corsair H115i running on the quiet profile. Even on "balanced" I find the fans completely obnoxious so aren't going to push any further than that.

I started at 1.3 volts for a good "ballpark voltage" and haven't bothered seeing how low I can get the voltage yet though, if I can get as low as 1.27 for 5ghz I'll definitely try for 5.1ghz - probably at about 1.35 - 1.38. If I can keep below 70C on quiet profile I'll be happy.

My Msi GAMING M5 allowed me to hit 5.0 and 3200 ddr4 first boot with my 7700k and has been rock solid since really happy with it.

Hit 5Ghz @ 1.32v, 8x AVX offset with H110i v2. Idle at 30c, load at 75c

Got my 7700k to perfectly stable 5GHz @ 1.34V. Max load temp is 74°C on a Hyper 212 X! Can't wait to build a custom loop and see what I get

What I did instead is, buying a way cheaper SLI supported Motherboard and 20 bucks dual heat pipe cooler, lock for solid 4.5GHz with no further need in 1.15V.... So I get solid 4.5GHz stable performance with paying so much less than going with 500 Bucks motherboard and 100 bucks CPU water cooler or similar stuff. Completely saved 300-400 bucks for 0.5GHz speed. (If you have that kind of money, you should buy more SSD, maybe a 6800K, or a better graphic card)

These cpu need watercoolers for 5ghz. My brother got a magic 6700k which hit 5ghz at a little over 1.38v rock solid. He has an nzxt x61 kraken on it and under load its only hitting 79c sustained temps.

Kabylake is basically just like intel kept all the good ones, slapped on a new label and tossed them out with a slight price bump.

My 7700k is delidded and I can hit 5GHz with 1.32 as vCore with my noctua nh -d15. Running prime95 the average temperature is around 62/65c. Before the delidding the cpu temp was 25c higer.

Will you be doing some gaming benchmarks comparing the 7700k@ 5GHz against your old 4790k? I'd be interested to see the actual real world gains.

Spoiler alert; It's very possible. my 7700k on my z270e board under a Deepcool Captain Genome II AIO (just a captain 360ex with a helix tube in the front) is champing through 5ghz just fine; stock TIM, no de-lid, max core temp I've seen thus far is 65c.

It's so tempting to delid that CPU considering how rumors have indicated Intel skimped on the quality of thermal goo they used. If you ever decide to do it, make sure to get it on video!

I run my 7600k 5.1Ghz on 1.295v with Ram & cache (45) overclock, 3100mhz with 2666mhz stick with 57c on Lucifer K2. 5, 2ghz - 1, 355v. The chip can even more but thats fine for now. Im still adjusting.
p.s. My 2500k also run 5, 1Ghz on 1, 520v 78-85C and 5, 2Ghz 1, 580v above 90C

I just delidded mine today and was able to stable 5ghz @1.3v and 5.1ghz @1.37v

Great Video. Seems like almost all chips are hitting 5ghz or close to it. If Zen is horrible this might be the chip I put in my new rig.

that joke on if it can run crysis was good :D

it's most definitely possible I easily hit 5 gigahertz on my 7700k with ratios at 50 and voltage set to 1.350

I delid my 7700K and with 4.8GHZ on 1.30Vcore I get average temps lower than 60 C and that is with NHD15S. No need for loud clunky AIO water cooling setups :)
