I've overclocked this i7 7700K Kaby Lake to 5GHz so now we get to see how fast it is in benchmarks, apps and games.

Kaby Lake is pretty much the Devils Canyon of this generation, maybe a little more disappointing.

Ty for showing amd & nvidia gpu benchmarks! Also the 4.7 and 5.0. so we can get a feel of what 4790k @ 4.7 vs. 7700k @ 4.7 and not like these other YTers whom are lazy and have 4.7ghz vs. 5.0ghz.

MB Teck - Great video and well reasoned methodology. I was particularly glad to see XPLANE 10 included in the CPU benchmarks. I find Flight Sim is an often overlooked genre for benchmarking. This is understandable given the relative 'niche' status of flight sim vs. more mainstream games, but flight sim (and flight combat sims too) are really good indicators of overall system balance given that they typically are not GPU optimized like most gaming engines, which puts much heavier load on the CPU (especially), memory and even storage in the system. Other FS suggestions you might also consider: DCS World and Prepar3d. Thanks again for the great video!

My oh my! When you put those 1070 benchmarks alongside the RX 480.... I have the urge to run out and buy one. But then I remember I only spent $80 on my 4gb 480 @ 1360mhz and that I'll probably be fine for another year

Some feedback: I find the led light that is shining on your face very white, some dime light would look nicer. And also skin tones would look more natural.

I have to admit, this 5.0ghz Kaby Lake is verry tempting!
If Zen will fail to perform, i will not regret i have waited for it, Sky Lake didn't impress me much.

Nice video; I have a OriginPC Eon17-SLX10 on order right now (arriving in two weeks) that will come with 7700K, 64 Gig RAM, 4K Gsync display, dual SLI bridged 1080's and dual M.2 Samsung 960 Pro drives in a RAID 0 configuration. Origin will (modestly) overclock the CPU and GPU's but I expect that I will be de-lidding the 7700K and going with a liquid metal TIM and liquid metal between the chip and the heat sink. Coupled with a booster-cooler under the gaming laptop I do not have expectations to get up to the ~5 GHz range but I do have a target of 4.75 to 4.8 GHz.

Heat removal will be the greatest challenge as it is with any laptop system but the Eon17 is a 'screamer' with fan cooling and the Targus HD3 will just help move air through the machine.

The system will be a daily gaming platform with either the built in 4K display or triple 4K monitors in a desktop config. As long as I can keep the frame rates in the +60 fps range without melting down the machine I will be happy.

I upgraded to the 7700k from the fx8350 and noticed a hell of a difference....i was plagued by the rx480 power draw issue and when i upgraded it was like a put a brand new gpu in my system. I also overclocked mine to 5ghz and honestly im wondering why i went with amd to start with now with ryzen comming out i still have no ragrets because i dont see ryzen being anything mind blowing except for those who are amd die hards

In your tests, it doesn't seem there's much difference between 4.7 - 5.0GHz in your results for the Kaby. So, it would be interesting to see any gains made in those titles if you threw in an OC'd Titan X Pascal in there and did it again. :)

I got some strange results.
Before delidding to be stable on 5.00 Ghz the CPU required 1.42V and temps were hell - 100-105 °C.
After delidding to be stable on 5.00 and 5.10 Ghz the CPU required only 1.37 but temps are hot again - 85-90 °C.
Why previously required 1.42 and now only 1.37 I have no idea (o.0) but it's fact, now is stable even on 5.1 Ghz with 1.37V.
Now for 4.80 Ghz my 7700K required only 1.26V and temps about 80-90 °C.
I use custom water cooling so I replaced the stock TIM with MX-4 (non conductive paste). Maybe if using liquid metal instead MX-4 for TIM, the temps will be even lower, but I don't want to risk with conductive paste + water cooling.

OC'd perhaps 10? Maybe 12 7700K's on water cool to 4.6Ghz with 100% success. That seems to be the sweet spot that just about every 7700K can do. I expect Intel's answer to Ryzen to be a select bin release of the 7600 and 7700 that are factory clocked at 4.5Ghz. An easy win for Intel to get the speed crown back post Ryzen as long as they price it right.

for a cpu game test you should try a benchmark in arma 3
