One thing I’ve learned from watching Scotty the last few months is to simply not buy any car as every car will ruin your life. I walk everywhere now and I also feel great!

I’m noticing almost all His customers have cracked windshields. What’s going on in Texas? Lol Geez in NY I can’t even get around with a license plate bulb out.

I have been a Toyota mechanic for 40 years.
As strange as Scotty is, he is right about 90% of the time.
Experience and diagnostics is also 90% of the battle being a licensed tech.
Go Scotty Go!

Highlander, 249k. Gas only. Two wheel drive. Yes, maintained.

The electric differential is still cheaper to replace than replacing a Jatco transmission on a Nissan.

If the owner decides to junk the car, I would like you to take apart the differential to look inside.

You had me sell my 2012 chevy volt before it costs me a fortune to repair.

Scotty is right! Hybrids have more parts compared to a conventional vehicle, more parts that can break down over time. I would only buy a new hybrid but I personally think hybrids used for commercial purposes (taxi, uber, deliveries, etc) are the only owners that fully take advantage of the gas savings before the car starts to fall apart. They definitely recover their investment sooner than the average driver.

I've learned from Scotty a while ago:
NO Hybrids
NO All Wheel Drives

Been a Toyota fan for 30 years, own 4, my 2021 Hybrid Highlander platinum edition is the nicest, most efficient and safe vehicle I’ve ever owned

I have two 2006 Toyo Highlander Hybrids. Both made in Japan! Both with over 200k (217k & 226k). Both 7 seaters and 4wd i (its not true awd Scottie!) Oil changes and some broken window regulators. Hybrid batteries 85+ percent. Best year and car ever made in 2000's for return on money and use.

$2500 is nothing compared to making payments on a newer car or getting 20 MPG when gas costs $5 per gallon.

I'd have that rear differential replaced if it was around $2.5k. I have a Toyota Sequoia 4WD with the big V8 timing belt service every 90k miles. My Sequoia is 14 years old with 180k miles on it and I'm gladly having costly repair/maintenance done if needed. Scotty said it, that Highlander is still really nice. It deserves to be fixed.

Hi Scotty. Love your channel, but I am going to take a bit of a different view regarding hybrids. I have two : a 2019 Camry and my wife drives a 2017 Rav4 ( both purchased new). I would agree in the regard that when they break, probably more expensive, but there are trade-offs. For example, my Camry has NO belts; everything is electronic, so I never have to worry about being stranded after a serpentine belt lets go, or an alternator takes a crap. And, I AVERAGE between 53-55 mpg.... IN A CAMRY! My wife's Rav4 has a rear end similar to what you reviewed in this video. I changed the fluid in the front and rear axle assemblies at 50, 000 miles (hybrids do not have standard "differentials"). No problems and she just passed 70, 000 miles. Perhaps the Highlander you reviewed did not have this service, I don't know. The takeaway: whether a hybrid or standard ICE, maintain it, and it will last a LONG time, especially (I also have a 2012 Tundra and a 2013 Camry ICE) if it is a Toyota.

And this is why I'm glad I bought a 2019 Toyota Sienna with their traditional 3.5L V6 and not wait for the redesigned 2021, where the ONLY drivetrain available, regardless of trim level, is a Hybrid system.

Also it's probably the outer wheel bearing I worked at Toyota for about 4 years as a service tech and never replaced an inner wheel bearing. Going bad. It is 90 percent outer wheel bearings and 10 percent bad alignment or struts make cupped tires. Should've just replaced the outer wheel bearing and sent it.

List of things that I never expected to happen in 2020
* A virus to shut down everything
*Scotty telling us not to buy a Toyota.

Man, 2020 is crazy.
