Lord Dannatt: Donbas and Luhansk control is 'within Russian reach'

Russia is "slowly making an advance" in Luhansk using long-range artillery, says former British Army Chief, Lord Richard Dannatt.

He outlines how the gentle, rolling fields of Ukraine are difficult to defend without a ready supply of tanks, artillery and armour which is severely lacking on the defending side.

All credible reports before February 24, claimed that the Ukrop Army had over 150, 000 men amassed along the Donbass Front.
When Russia came in, over the top, and assaulted Kiev and Kharkov, they forced the Ukrainians to detach at least half of that force in Donbass, and use them to rush out and meet the Russian advance. Once contact was established, and the other wing of the Russian assault had taken Kherson and encircled Mariupol, the battle lines were effectively set.
This allowed Russia and the Donbass Militias to begin the final destruction of the Ukrop Army in Donbass.
This has been a well-planned and brilliant military campaign, from start to the present; and only the gullible, who believe MSM and are completely ignorant of military tactics, could possibly believe that Ukraine is winning.

No way is Russia stopping at Donbass. Odessa will be taken for sure, and - more than likely - any Ukrainian territory east of the Dnipro river.

The same stupid story on Kiev reiterated - Ukraine had no any success so far, they are losing war, stop lying western public - Russia makes clear progress and they will not stop, Odesa is the next after Donbas. Ukrainians lost too many soldiers, probably over 50k, soon there will be no experienced fighters in combat for them, they were performing mobilisation for 3 times, while Russi still works with peacetime army.

Russia's relationship with the European Union before the invasion was pretty awful. I don't see Russia stopping until they have possession of the entire borders of Ukraine to stop those arm shipments.

This is the risk of having a comedian president, everything is just drama. Zelensky should have negotiated before the war broke, what Russia was demanding was very simple: remain neutral. Now, I don't see how Russia will let captured land go.

I think russia returning control of Luhans and Donesk to the LPR and DPR is a more realistic way of thinking about it. They have been under occupation for eight years and the occupiers have to give up or die.

Ukraine even if it wanted to cannot sign a ceasefire. If Russia has a clear land bridge to Crimea that means Ukraine is virtually landlocked. The Odessa region is under a permanent threat of attack in this scenario meaning any maritime trade is gonna be prohibitively expensive. Meaning a basket case in need of permament western funds which will dry up. Russia too cannot renounce a secure land bridge to Crimea since the ukrainians will pull out all the stops to isolate the peninsula if that happens. There is no viable ceasefire since both cannot give up without losing it all.
