What should I be looking for in an iron supplement? I know you said elemental iron but when I look up supplements I see ferrous sulfate, iron glycinate, ferrous gluconate, etc. Is there a specific brand/kind you recommend?

Dr. Berkowski, I have developed iron deficient anemia and I am assuming it is a direct result of the roux n y gastric bypass I had done in 2006. I never put 2 and 2 together until I finally had an iron infusion due to my blood levels being so low and the physical side affects of the low levels. I immediately noticed complete relief of RLS among other issues but over time, I am again at the same point due to the inability to absorb iron normally and being a 50 year old female which means menopause. I have gone from a 3 day light menstrual cycle to usually 7 days and very heavy sometimes twice a month which reaked havoc on my iron. I find it very difficult to get a primary care physician to understand my iron issues and all they want to do is throw iron supplements at it. Have you had much interaction with gastric bypass patients regarding RLS and iron deficient anemia and what is your thoughts or recommendations? I really appreciate any insight on this!

Just so people aware, the doctor misspoke sometimes and said "milligrams per mL" when he meant "nanograms per mL"

I got Ferrlecit 5ml injection 3 days ago. I still have twitches and internal vibration in my neck and arms. My ferritin level is 18. Can somebody have internal vibration instead of RLS being iron difficient?

There is a small amount of evidence that iron can be helpful even where a person is not anaemic. Do you know the threshold (if any) at which one should consider such supplements?
