5:45 dir /a bro, show's all files :) You also need to go into folder options and check on "show system files", not just show hidden files.

Could you make a top list, and explain why you recommend those malware (antivirus) removers?

Thanks for the review! I've been very interested in a more current review of AntiVir, since I tend to install it on people's machines. Why? Well, the free version updates itself 4 times a day and I can schedule periodic scans. As close to a "set it and forget it" configuration I can get for free. Other free anti-virus applications update themselves once a day, so I like that AntiVIr updates 4 times a day (roughly every 6 hours). Also, AntiVir's detection rates have always been consistently in the 99%-ile. While your test didn't yield a higher detection rate, I'm still happy with its performance (it terms of detection, etc). Thanks for posting! With regard to AntiVir's "popularity", I didn't think it was very popular at all since it rarely gets mentioned when discussing anti-virus applications. Thanks again! :)

Regarding the invisible file, did you also enable showing hidden system files?
After all attrib +s +h isn't exactly hard to do and some malware does make use of marking a file as a hidden system file.

I used AVG free for years and never had a problem with it. It caught every single malware and deactivated it before it could get into my system. NOT SO WITH NORTON -- even the registered version of Norton got my system infected--it could not "catch" it before infiltrating my computer which forced me to wipe out my hard drive and restore with backups.

I used to use Avira (free) but ditched it a few year back because the spamming adverts were over the top.

Also, it bundled Opera in the install. Avira has it's phantom VPN service, Opera also has a built in quasi-VPN. Is there a relationship there?

I'm curious which antivirus/malware you recommend.

It would be fun to see you test zero-day protection as well. Maybe after you install on your vm you disable signature updates or disable the internet connection and wait a week, find new malware and run a test with them. Would that make sense to do? That way we get to see how they deal with new malware that dont have a signature yet.

avira is so old... remember using it on my windows vista laptop back then

Good signatures, almost none 0-day protection.
Apart from the PUP it installs and Luke scanning the system after each detection, this is a no-go for me.

Leo, what about giving current K7 Total Security a try?

0:55 Could you make a video where you try to overwhelm the anti-malware programs by launching the malwares as fast as possible? (remove the delay in Malex).
To see if there are any anti-malware programs can handle such conditions, I think that could be interesting to see.

6:09 Did you try typing the exact path in the window and see if it opens? I've had to do that with a couple things and I have no idea why they don't show up otherwise. The only other way I could see them was exploring the folder with command prompt pre-boot up.

Your monotone voice and your accent drive me nuts sometimes, but I really love your videos, they are informative and well made. Thank you for that!

*DIR /Q* (display meta data) (Windows 10)
You can also type: *help dir* or *dir /?* to see what additional flags you can use. (but I think you know this already).

*DIR /AH* (no space between A & H, no slash either) (A = Show files with specified attributes: H = Hidden files)
