RIMOWA LUGGAGE REVIEW 2023! (Is it WORTH $1050??)

In this video you will see a Rimowa luggage review. I will also discuss if I think that it is worth the $1,050 price tag. This Rimowa luggage review will be specifically for the Rimowa Original Cabin. I decided to choose the Rimowa original cabin black instead of the original silver color because I found the Rimowa original to be too shiny when seen in store. I will do a Rimowa review and show different aspects about the Rimowa cabin that I like and dislike.

Rimowa luggage is very expensive and the Rimowa Cabin retails for $1050 in all solid colors. Rimowa has also done collaborations with companies like Supreme, Off-White, Dior, AESOP, and Moncler so the popularity of the brand continues to increase. While the Rimowa Original Cabin is very expensive, these collaboration versions are even more expensive and can be over $5000 in some cases.

Before the Rimowa suitcase, I had Tumi luggage and wanted to find a piece of luggage that was different and higher quality. I found Rimowa and was attracted to the history and overall approach that Rimowa takes toward its products. Even with the high price tag, I do find that the Rimowa cabin is worth its price and will hold its value more than other luggage.

Rimowa offers a variety of different models and sizes to accommodate many customer's luggage needs.

Okay, after watching your video a dozen times, I went with the classic. I also customized the wheels and handles. Thanks for the review; the case was perfectly explained.

I recommend buying Rimowa in Europe as opposed to anywhere in North America. You can save $200-300 just on your VAT return alone and a slight price adjustment as they are a sliver cheaper in Europe.

I bought my first Rimowa in Paris, France (The compact design from about 7 years ago. It still works and is great for packing things back, just slightly inconvenient with the two wheel design) and my second Rimowa in Copenhagen, Denmark (the most recent Original Cabin, bought it a few months ago). There are limited official retailers, so make sure you are buying it from a reputable department reseller or official Rimowa store only. Rimowa will list these on their site.

They are 100% worth it.

I bought my first rimowa topas (now it’s called original) in check-in size back in 2013. I am a frequent traveler, I’m talking about five days a week and I travel on weekly basis. Even though there are missing studs, lots and lots of scratches, my 8 year-old rimowa is still working perfectly. Today, I bought my second riwoma suitcase, in same size, same model, just different colour this time.

This video is one of my favourite Rimowa representations on YouTube. Clear and crisp, you break it down beautifully and keep it concise with great visuals. Genuinely so nice to watch! One question I’d like your opinion on - how have you enjoyed the black colour for the past few years? If you were to purchase the cabin size again, would you still choose black or would you go for silver?

Thanks for the detailed review. I recently got the silver one with red handles. Now cost $1, 400 (!). I did go with silver to avoid seeing scratches so much. Did a two week trip to Madrid just with this case and a personal item.

I have both the Rimowa Original and Tumi Latitude. I vote Rimowa for carry-on and Tumi for large check-ins. As a frequent traveller of long distance international flights, the Tumi Latitude is absolutely AMAZING. After numerous flights and transits, my luggage has literally zero scuffs. And we know how luggage handlers are in domestics.. they're rough. After 5+ years my Tumi Latitude looks brand new. Way lighter than a Rimowa too -- very important when I'm on extended long trips and expecting to do some shoppping lol. And I can carry all my shoes without worrying about weight!

For this price point, I’d fully expect them to back it up with a lifetime warranty.

Great case. Have had Rimowa for over 15 years. It’s a timeless classic, Rimowa is actually pronounced RimoVa as the W in Germany is pronounced as a V in English, Louis Vuitton MH now own the brand and the prices have soared and the quality isn’t the same unfortunately. Enjoy your case

Hello Jamey and everyone that has been using the carry on aluminum suitcase. Can you share some experience flying with luggage's weight restrictions? Some airlines offer 12kg for economic class, 18kg for business class, and some trains do not limit the weight as long as we can handle ourselves. That would be fine. But some others only allow 7kg for economic tier, and 15kg for business tier. Do you just flight with business (and up) tickets? It makes no sense having the luggage of 5kg and contents of 2kg. The laptop and charger is 2kg already. I have an aluminum checked luggage and I love it, but still hesitate to get a carry on aluminum case. Not to mention, even if I can pack upto 12kg or 15kg, it would be painful to load it to the overhead cabin. In short, how do you cope with these weight issues? Thanks for any tips (if any available).

I love Rimowa! I have the carry-on, check-in, and just recently bought the original trunk. They are all in silver aluminum which is their classic colour. I don't think I can ever go back to regular suitcases. :)

Thank you for this lovely video! Is it easy to close with those locks? How does it compare to zippers?

Last year I flew over 27000 miles including one trip that took me around the World with a carryon and a backpack. The only time I ever travel with checkin luggage is when I am flying with my wife. She always uses check in luggage, so if I have to wait for her's, I might as well wait for mine. My current carryon is a Travelpro Crew and a $19, 14 inch duffle bag that rides on top. Can't wait for my next trip.

Re: the Velcro - the Velcro isn't strong because it doesn't need to be, this is by design. That strap was designed to keep the compression plates in place and in order to do that, the strap needs to be strong in a lateral direction. You can try this simple test.. connect the strap as normal, and then instead of pulling the hook-side directly away from the loop-side, pull the hook-side laterally along the same axis as the loop-side. You see? Very strong. Another good reason for the specially designed hook-side is that it is less likely to snag on sensitive clothing items such as cashmere sweaters, lace panties, etc. Well done video, my friend! 🤌
