Advil - How Much & Often Can You Take it?

Brad and Chris the Pharmacist discuss everything you need to know about Advil.

Some of our astute followers have noticed me slurring my words. I am not drunk but working with Brad it would be justifiable. I had 6 infected cysts removed from my mouth (noncancerous) and I have residual scar tissue and numbness. I will try to do better. Thanks Bob.

There are so many risks with pain medication, even OTC medicine, that I try to avoid at all costs. But I absolutely agree that 7 days should be the max for taking it. After that point, you really need to address it with your doctor, PT, etc and find an alternative treatment.

I had brain mets and had ibuprofen off and on for a year after treatment (helps with inflammation and other pain I had)....it mess's up your gut and after a while every time you eat it causes you to be nauseous, so don't use it for too long...

I took one tablet 200 mg ibuprofen at night for whiplash and concussion. After 2.5 months, I got hypertensive and stopped taking it. So watch your BP.

I overused ibuprofen and ended up having kidney problems. This was for frozen shoulder during beginning of Covid and couldn’t get to doctor. I take 0 ibuprofen now.

Love your channel & the help/info!
However, I take exception to the repeated recommendation of milk! Milk is an inflammatory item, so to take anti-inflammatory med with a known inflammatory is definitely counterintuitive.

One thing not mentioned here is how these can make you feel. While I find both acetaminophen and ibuprofen somewhat sedating, the effects of ibuprofen are far more pronounced. When I take ibuprofen at night I can also wake up somewhat groggy. Acetaminophen doesn't seem to have the same problem. And naproxen, to me is much harder on the stomach. And something not touched on is acetaminophen mixed with a muscle relaxant such Orphenadrine, brand name Norgestic.

Is it a coincidence that I was arguing earlier tonite with my ex wife who said I can't be giving ibuprofen for my 13yr old daughter who has 3 hairline fractures in her foot? She claims it's not good for her and she needs Tylenol only

I broke my arm a few days ago and the doctor gave me nothing for pain and just said to take Advil. Let just say it’s not making much of a difference. 😔

I love Advil.... wish I could take it freely.... but I limit its use.... I take 3 200mg tablets a month at maximum. No problems.

My Dr. Prescribed ibuprophen for lower pack pain. I was hesitant to take it because I thought it was not good for my liver. But she told me ibuprofen is metabolized thru the kidneys.

I have a makeshift setup similar to your wall anchors where I use elastic bands as well. It work ok for what it is, but it's better than nothing

I have severe shoulder and neck pain every morning stemming from a fractured vertebra 8 yrs ago, probably arthritis. Anyway I have to take 600 milligrams ibuprofen every morning to get through the day. I only take it the once though. Wondering how long I can safely do this?

Good info, thanks. I'd be interested in some follow ups discussing other common OTC pain killers. (Maybe you've done them. I should go look) I have some arthritis in my knees that I've been expecting for 19 years now. The doc wants me to not use NSAIDs if I don't have to because of the potential for it to hurt my kidneys long term. Using Tylenol at her suggestion, but was wondering if using a variety of OTC painkillers would limit what one of them could do.
