Contractor friend and I were moving a charged panel box one inch. Removed four screws, moved box, replaced three screws, but the fourth was troublesome. He pushed the panel hard while I tried to used the screwgun on the fourth. I couldn't get the angle right and keep the gun safely away from the buss bars. He wanted to try so I handed him the gun. He couldn't get it either, but asked for one last try, so push harder. Our faces were close to the open box when the gun touched the buss bar. The explosion sounded like a 30 cal rifle shot and the white light blinded us both. Sparks were catching our clothes on fire but we couldn't see where exactly. We beat on our bodies to extinguish small flames that we couldn't see and yelled to each other "I'm on fire. Are you all right?". Not sure if the other person was even alive. Couldn't see or hear for five seconds, then sight came back to see the partner beating out magnesium sparks still flaming on clothes and floor. Both alive, but the magnesium frame of the drill had a big hole in it even though it still worked. Kept it as a reminder. God protected the simple that day.

Electricity is absolutely no joke. I work in industrial in 480V/200A everyday and I will never be found not using arc flash gear no matter how dumb I think it is it could someday save my life.

Electronics technician here, the amount of ultraviolet radiation you can get instantly in an arc is no joke. The arc can reach temperatures that are truly ridiculous and even though its just a short instant it really is a hell of alot of heat for the human body to endure. Im sorry you had to go through this but hopefully your story can help others to not have to get hurt.

Working on a House relocating. The range box was surface mounted went to the panel turned off the only two pole 50 in the panel and it was labeled range stuck The tick tester into the hot never got no beep proceeded to dismantle the receptacle unscrew the box from the wall and when I went to grab all the conductors to push the wire out of the connector so I could pull it through the floor. It blew up in my hand line. One line two neutral ground right in the Palm of my hand second degree burns took a month to heal properly. Come to find out there was actually two separate services on the house. One on the back one on the front as it used to be two apartments learned an important lesson that day

Not to make light of your situation but typically the available incident energy at this level is typically much lower than you get an industrial or commercial facilities with large transformers and breakers. Thank God you recovered. Some of these guys have paid with their lives. So easy to take for granted when we do it day in and day out.
