Everyone agrees that they were last seen going strongly for the summit. They were also climbing into lowering clouds and greatly reduced visibility. Loss of visibility lessens the likelihood that they were able to summit and may well be the reason they fell from the mountain. R.I.P., gents; you are still the heroes of the entire climbing world.

I hope with everything in me that they made it to the summit. I can only imagine what they must’ve been feeling all those years ago as they climbed higher and higher. God bless them both.

They should have just sat at the top as an everlasting human statue

There’s a camera lost on that mountain that tells the story...

If they found the camera there can be a proof? I dont care if they descend back safely or not. Laika the dog was the first animal who went to the space but never came back home. Still the first.

There is nothing in this universe and beyond that can break the human spirit. If they want, they will definitely get it. No matter what the consequences will be. Instead of grieving for them, we should cherish the memories of these mighty warriors who laid down their lives to achieve their goals. It has always been like this and that's how we have progressed. through the inspirations ❤️

It's nice to hope they made it all the way to the summit, but the fact that the picture wasn't found on Mallory's body is very poor evidence. The only possible proof would be if the camera is found with photographs taken on the summit.

No photo, glasses in pocket indicates climbing down, Odell had to have seen them on top of the 2nd or 3rd step. About 600 ft from the summit. He stated they would summit by 4:00pm, it was 1:00pm when he witness them appear and going strong for the summit. No way could they reach the summit in that amount of time from the 1st step. If they were that close they made it.

I read a book on George's life, named Paths of Glory by Jeffrey Archer. It brought tears to my eyes. What am extraordinary man with an extraordinary love story.

The first picture in this video makes clear that Mallory and Irvine had reached the third step at 12.50 as Norton reported (the last step but one before the summit pyramid). This gave them about three hours, enough time to reach the summit by 4 PM, Mallory’s declared turn back time. This picture shows that the Everest was summited in June 1924. It was a great achievement by Mallory and Irvine: A triumph of the human spirit that elevates us all.

I personally believe they made it.

Also, I see a lot of people in the comments saying they couldn't have made it over the second step.

There are statememts by Mallory that he was planning on not following the ridge route (which is where the second step is), and instead planned on taking a route that passed below the second step. For those of you who are interested, Michael Tracy has a great youtube channel with a lot of great detail on the subject.

These two men were absolutely amazing. Climbing Mt Everest at a time when there was no technology that benefits climbers today. I totally believe they summited Mt Everest but tragedy struck on their descent

I just finished my reading of path of glory. So emotionally knitted the story of Mr. mallory
I hoped they both conquered the Everest

For me the most persuasive evidence they made it to the top is Mallory's watch, which was found crushed beneath his body with the hands pointing to 1:27. If that means a 1:27 a.m. fall, then they must have reached the top. Turning back short of the summit would have placed them much further down the mountain at that time.

Folks keep in mind that the North Ridge route with the steps 1 2 and 3 Were not established yet ...In Jake Nortons video he clearly shows
that the high camp he found at 1 third the way up the 1st step
would not be there normally .
He indicates that it was very likely based on his evidence that Mallory and Irvine would have chosen this area as a camp and path of least resistance to get around the obstacle..
And this imho may be the key to finding Irvine ...not on the conventional route but just a few steps or more in either direction... he may be lying there. ...which is very plausible considering the varied rough landscape up there.

0:01 Actually, we don't know if they did.

Maybe you should have the decency to mark your mixed up fotos as reenactments from the BBC, before someone gets a false idea... This behavior of carelessness is part of the problem.

Who took that picture? Odell? I read “the fight for Everest 1924”, but this picture isn’t in there.
