A preserved foot believed to belong to an Everest climber has been found on the north face of the mountain a century after he disappeared.

Andrew "Sandy" Irvine vanished alongside his climbing partner, the famous mountaineer George Mallory, when attempting to reach the summit.

This discovery could potentially help solve whether or not the pair succeeded in becoming the first people to summit Everest, 29 years before Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the top.

When you think of the equipment they used to ascend Everest..and compare it to the tech they use nowadays...it's hard not to admire the courage of these men...they were beyond brave.

this is a story that deserves to be big. I’ve always been fascinated by it and gave me the hobby to climb mountains. The fact they managed to climb “one” of the tallest mountains in the world in 1924 is crazy.

When i heard this story my jaw dropped, i hope one day that his body and camera is found. It could have proof that could rewrite history.

This is amazing. I remember the news when they found Mallory's body. I always wondered when they would ever find Irvine.

Being released from a glacier doesn't bode well for the discovery of the camera, as being disgorged by a glacier is like a slow motion blender.

Salute.. 🙏🏻

It proves that marking your kit in a clear and durable way is important.

This is one of the most historic discoveries in the history of mountain climbing, I never would have thought that anything could be found after so many decades, but here we are.
If they find the camera with proof that they went all the way in 1924, this would be even more historic.

That's crazy when you think about how young he was... 22 years old and to even think about making it to the top of Mt. Everest.. Legend..

It's amazing that they finally found a part of Irvine 100 years later. It might finally get solved

There's a chance that they did make it to the summit, and that whatever happened occurred on the way down. George Mallory had intended to leave a photo of his wife at the summit, and they didn't find it on his remains.

Hopefully these men can now both rest a little easier. Heroes of exploration.

Couldn’t imagine trying to climb Mt Everest now let alone in the 1920’s

Let's just say that they made it. Congrats to them both!

I'm fascinated by Everest stories and this may top them all. Something that always hits me when I see these early climbers is that they had almost no specialized gear or protective clothing to save them from the many threats, yet they took it all on. Truly unique individuals.
Now it's big business and anyone with the funds can try.

Yeah I remember when they found Mallory. Kinda cool how the mountain keeps its souvenirs

The best input I heard is that no, they did not make the summit because the north face is a very steep and treacherous climb on a good day, and there were strong winds that day. Mallory was in his 40s. When his body was found, it was face down pointed in the direction of Everest. What could have happened is that inexperienced Irvine lost his footing or the rope broke. Either way, we have two great mountaineers found on the 75th and 100th anniversaries, respectively. Mallory and Irvine will be forever on the mountain, which they set out to conquer.

People say the Jurassic Park movies are silly because no one would go to an amusement park where the animals eat you, yet people still climb Everest.

Please let them find the camera and let it have pictures on it. It would such a miracle!
