Can we all just be thankful that people so carefully etched their names on all their stuff in the 20s?

I'm so glad that professionals with the National Geographics folks is who made this discovery! They knew the history and have the intelligence to present it to the world in an ethical manner.

Jochen Hemmleb was the leader of the team that discovered George Mallory's body. It was through his research and foresight that they were even in the right area and were successful. In America he never got the full credit for the momentous event that he deserved. Congrats, Jochen.

I was watching your video on Irvine possibly not being on the mountain any more literally last night. Then I wake up to this news. Absolutely nuts.

In the 1950s friends of my parents lost a son while climbing the French Alps, his body not found. In the 1990s a formidable thaw occurred and his body found. His aged mother went to France to lay him to rest, and died soon afterwards. From South Africa.

I purchased and read Julia Summers' book this summer, and I am truly astonished by the immense courage displayed by a 22-year-old man. One of my greatest inspirations is someone I have never met, yet they were born over a century before me.

Thank You, Tom. Prakash Gurung sends regards from Nepal. I spent time with him recently. He assisted on your Mallory / Irvine expedition, in 2022. Small world. Oh, I just love our mountaineering community, and your content. 👍🏼

STUNNED. I’ve been following this case for years. I always suspected that when/if Irvine was found that it would be somewhat by accident with a dash of luck. So glad Irvine’s family and living descendants can finally have some closure; to most of us this is just an unsolved mystery but to them it’s personal and so much more.

Truly fascinating. It popped up in my phone's news feed from a site I'd never heard of and I thought it was a hoax. Now the search really begins. Thanks for the great coverage of the mystery.

Taking nothing away from the legendary George Leigh Mallory, but Sandy Irvine was also a fascinating person in his short lifetime!
