We Got our 2nd APOD! 🥳 NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day

Woooohoooo Today's APOD is our picture of the Blue Horsehead Nebula!

I, Antoine, took this picture a long time ago on a solo adventure in Death Valley. I spent 2 nights for a total of 12 hours of integration time capturing this object with my small refractor telescope and QHY600C.
I processed this image and sent it to APOD back then, but it didn't get featured. Just a few weeks ago, Dalia asked me to re-process this same data and see if I could get something better using my current processing skills. I didn't want the image to turn out too similar to the old one so I was more aggressive with the workflow and didn't care too much about oversaturating etc. I sent it again to APOD just in case and BAM! They picked it!

This is our 2nd APOD but our first "solo" one. It's funny because despite being alone when I imaged this, Dalia still deserves this APOD as much as I do because I would have never cared about reprocessing the data if she didn't have that idea. Teamwork! 💪🏻💃🕺

Also, a good lesson to learn from this is... KEEP YOUR DATA, even if it's old! Your processing skills will always get better and you might get a completely new result when reprocessing data years later!

Congratulations! A beautiful image. Remember - increase saturation to 11 for APOD! the stars do look much better in the new version as well.
