Basic Lego pieces and Lego Technic are both used for different things but both have their positives and negatives. I go through everything you need to know about the two including how they're used...

So I come from a Lego Bionicle/Hero Factory/Constraction (which is dead, sadage..)/2000's era Lego. And one of the cool things about Technic is not only the functions, but being able to see the functions in action. one of the really cool things about the 2001 Toa mata and 2002 Toa nuva, were that you could see the gears turn when you used the attack function.
Back in the old days we used to get a bunch of weird technic sets from Battle cars to duel bikes, to the 2001 Rahi, and going to the 90's we got the technic competition line, which was a bunch of abstract vehicles and machines that duelled each other.
for the last few years though Technic has been nothing but Control plus sets, pullback motors and super cars that are really just shelf pieces.
But this year, in 2024, with the Mack electric LR garbage truck, and the march 2024 technic Space sets, it feels like some of that old technic magic is finally coming back.

I've been learning about the different colour pins...serious engineering!

You said ”Wroom wroom” playing with an ELECTRIC garbage truck.

What you call "technic brick" is actually a "technic liftarm". Technic bricks are those weird "system" bricks with pin holes (or less often - axle holes).

In the beginning, whole technic sets were constructed using technic bricks and regular system bricks and plates. Liftarms were introduced much, much later. Every year there are more liftarms and less technic bricks used in new sets. Probably because liftarms are easier to use (better geometry with 1x1 crosscut) and much cheaper to make.

Nowadays, technic bricks are mostly used for decorative purposes as they provide an easy way to connect regular system pieces with skeleton made of lifarms, pins and axles.

As for technic pins (nobody calls them "pegs") and their colours, Lego is only consistent with their basic 2L pins with friction. They are black and always have been black. Any other kind of pin had its color changed at least once. And some kinds are produced in multitude of colors (e.g. 3L pin with stop bush).

Would be nice if you did an overview of hybrid system/technic pieces, such as 1x2 bricks with attached pins, the round brick w/axle holes and all those other specialized bricks that make it possible to seamlessly connect the two systems

Update on the pins
The loose little pins also exist in yellow
(Due to the solar orbit set I think)

The small technic red axles also exist in black which looks way better on most sets but just doesnt get used a lot for some reason idk

Maybe it's just a nostalgia thing but I've always thought that Technic looks really cool, it has its own distinct aesthetic which screams more advanced creativity, the pins and colors and holes don't bother me at all. It hurt a bit how you kept saying "technic doesn't look very good" throughout the video hahaha.

Connect the BB8 door with the lego string part to the arm that pushed it out. That should close it when you twist it back.

The Orrery is probably the only non-vehicle technic set

May it be is for the design's accident probability.

For a 12 years old person:
the spaceship form invites the user to play and deal with it in a way that is more probable to fall and crash, while the ground excavator form invites the user to play and deal with it in a less risky way

system is for good looking builds and technics are for functions

You guys are sooo smart. Love to watch you.

Great video. And that train engine is proof that you are a master builder. I think the reason Star Wars sets are more expensive is because Lucas (or now The Mouse) gets a cut, so they transfer that to the customer.

Normal lego: Build structures, or less detailed cars, made for children to build and simple
Lego Technic: Build cars, planes, helicopters, anything thats MECHANICAL and TECHNICAL, made for more advanced builders and not so simple

I've heard other people complain about the pins showing in technic sets too, but tbh they don't bother me at all. Also, having many different colors in pins that are for the same purpose wouldn't be a good idea

10:55 18+ sets are the sets that are not meant to play with, basically display sets

About sets that dont contain technic, a big one that comes very close is the 31129 (idk if the number is correct) majestic tiger (3in1) which has 1 single technic pin in the tail

Bionicle sets are technic, as were the throwbots.
