The look on his face -- when he sees Sarah Jane again and she introduces herself to him -- is the face of every Sarah Jane fan who ever lived.

That is the face of a man so very happy to see one of his friends survive their time together.

Such a charming scene. David captured that reaction so well, it really did feel like he and Tom Baker were in fact different generations of the same actor.

I like how the Doctor recognised her immediately, even before Finch introduced her. He'd never forget her face, even as she got older.

If you think about it, David Tennant was born in 1971, so that meant he probably grew up watching the Fourth Doctor with Sarah Jane as a companion, so this is probably both him channelling the Doctor seeing Sarah Jane again, but also his delight in meeting Sarah Jane as a fan of the show. But it's also a very profound moment for the Doctor as well. He had lost so much in the Time War, that seeing a friendly face from the past, when his life was a whole lot more carefree, made him feel young again. He has said himself he never looks back, and lost touch with so many of those he travelled with that to have someone he once knew just appear one day must have been the happiest moment he had felt in such a long time.

The fact that upon hearing the name ' John Smith ' Sarah Jane Smith immediately mentioned the Doctor says everything.

I’ve watched this scene so many times and I just now realized David said Tom Bakers, “Oh, I should think so.” God damn, Russell! This was brilliant.

This really was Tennant living out his dream of seeing Sarah Jane return to Doctor Who, and he got to see it AS the Doctor. Can’t imagine the euphoria.

He was channeling Tom Baker in that scene

This is why David was soo good he didn't just play this as a couple of old friends meeting up in the street the face lights up you felt the happiness the doctor felt seeing her like someone said here 10th face 4th eyes

I will be convinced until the day I die that there was absolutely ZERO acting involved on David's part in this scene - this is not The Doctor being delighted at seeing Sarah Jane again ... this is David Tennant fanboying over Lis Sladen!

The pure joy on Ten's face when he saw Sarah Jane. That was an honest reaction from Tennant.

That excitement wasn't acting. That was truly what he felt. He was so excited to meet her and work with her. :)

I still cry a little when I see this episode because Lis Sladen died in 2011 and I used to watch the Sarah Jane adventures.
