The BEST and WORST things about owning a JAGUAR XKR | X150 XKR 4.2 Owners Experience

The aluminium-body X150 shape Jaguar XKR is a massively popular car on the used market - and for good reason. Few other vehicles offer such a good all round GT car package for their prices. But with an array of different XK models to choose from, picking the right one for you can be tricky. 4.2? 5.0? RS? Base model?

Well, in this instalment of Best & Worst, I'm bringing my personal experience of Supercharged 2007 XKR 4.2 to the table, along with the most notable best and worst points about the car from my time spent with it...

I have a 2008 XKR (carbon/aluminium trim, not wood). It remains beautiful and is, somewhat surprisingly, one of the most reliable cars I've ever had. At 13 years old it is still my day-to-day drive.

Jaguar communities on facebook groups are extremely helpful. I always find tips and advice whenever I have an issue with my X-type.

Ive been hunting a XKR for about 8 years. A huge part of that was watching your videos over and over lol. Now that I have a 2011 XKR I have to post my biggest issue has been electrical battery issues. I didnt do the "double lock" and parked the car in the garage for a week and when I went to start it, it was dead. 250 bucks for a new battery and I am very careful about plugging in the CTEK when its parked. The second issue with the car is even with fuse 19 pulled you just can't enjoy the car as much as folks around you. When I can get some spirited driving going and downshifting I get the pops, cracks, and growls and I LIVE FOR IT. But since I'm usually in stop and go traffic I cant really get the car to do what I want. She is so tame in traffic. I love this car so much. One of the best things I've ever done but I agree on the electrical and sound.

I own a 2008 XKR, it has been a great car, and fun to drive. It can be sedate, or incredibly fast and nimble when you need it. You are correct about the community and forums. People supportive and helpful. You are correct about the window trim lol. I had some electrical gremlins in the screen, and also cruise control. Someone in a forum told me that even though the battery seems fine, starts etc., it may need to be replaced. I looked and the battery was the original, many years of service but old, pretty impressive. Replaced it and cruise control works, and screen problem stopped. Turns out that this car is very sensitive to battery voltages and amperes. After a year of the new battery, no gremlins. What would have made this car perfect outside, a real stainless mesh grill!

Great review. I recently bought an 09 xkr largely based on your previous Jaguar reviews and can agree with the points you’ve made in this one. Great community as you mentioned. Looking forward to the future reviews.

Great video, I agree with you comments as I also have owned many many different cars. Your frankness and perception is refreshing.

As an XKR driver I confirm these obeservations as correct. I have to say though that I haven’t had any gremlins (yet). I have had so many compliments for the car. It is a real beauty, good looking car. And that is also a part of the fun of owning an XKR.

Very nearly traded my own 08 XKR Portfolio Coupe. Drove a myriad of similarly vintaged gt Coupes, ragtops, and sedans in my search and have to say, the Jag just feels better, and in my opinion, looks better than most.

So glad I didn't. Almost 1.5 yrs and about 23k miles of ownership. Still loving this car.

Many thanks for the quality of your videos.
And also to allow the translation into French of your comments.
Thanks to you, I'm making my choice to buy an xkr by the end of the year, I hope.

Good review. I’m about to buy an 08 4.2 XK 60 edition. In Black with two tone black n cream interior. Metal brush finish interior instead of the wood. Hopefully they are happy with my S Class Merc LWB W221 as a trade. I’ve had it for 5 1/2 years. Great car. Never let me down but I fancy a change. I have an Arnage as well so it’s almost like have 2 of the same car....kinda. I love the Arnage. 4 1/2 years of ownership.

I have an 07 XK convertible, very similar to his car in the video and I can agree with almost everything. The biggest being the little problems. For example my driver seat won’t adjust which isn’t a huge problem because I’m the only one who drives it but again, annoying. Anyways, great video and glad to see a Jaggg driver.

10:30 fit/finish - I hear you. I have a 2002 XKR convertible, first time I flip down the drivers sunvisor I notice the fabric it is covered in doesn't quite extend far enough to be hidden under the vanity mirror housing, so there is this little gap I see each time showing the foam underneath. I suspect a german or japanese or south korean car company would have rejected that part.

I love my Jaguar X308 XJR. It's been dead reliable, it gets a lot of attention (the good kind) it's fun to drive and you can drive all day and still want to drive some more. I definitely agree with the overall Jagness stuff you mentioned though, some things just don't fit like you think they should, but parts are cheap and it's easy to service

XK in my opinion is going to be a classic. Absolutely. It's one of the best looking, timeless GT cars out there. Along with the initial Mercedes SEC, BMW original 6-series (maybe E31 8-series too), and Porsche 928. Absolutely adorable design and yes... you gotta be a complete car idiot to NOT like this classic V8 GT.
