I had four teeth taken out without any crowding very recently... my bottom teeth were just tilted a little outwards and my upper palate was already very small. My orthodontist said that taking teeth out was better than IPR because according to him IPR would cause my teeth to be sensitive forever. He also said that I could not get an expander because my gums are already weak. Now I am still waiting for my extraction spaces to close, and as they are closing more and more, my tongue barely has space to fit. Also, I sing in a choir, and in singing, tongue space is very important, so I have been struggling with doing something I love. Be very grateful if you have not needed extractions during treatment! We take things for granted.

my sister had a very crowded mouth, her teeth where almost watching each other so taking those 4 teeth out, allowed her to have the space to pull her teeth in the right place, it took like 6 years for her to finish and now she has a very beautiful smile (she was bullied so much for her teeth back in high school so her new smile make her more confident to smile again)

My teeth is SO BIG there's no way polishing the teeth is going to help my case. My orthodontist said "the craziest overcrowding I ever witnessed". Even after 4 teeth removed, there's still no room for my wisdom teeth to properly come out

My orthodontist was initially going to take out 4 teeth with the crowding I had and the angle that my incisors are pushed, but he was still uncomfortable with the Invisalign treatment the company sent him, so he had a panel look at my case, and FOR NOW, they created a treatment that doesn't require taking 4 teeth out. I start my treatment next week, and we'll see where my teeth are at in 6 months, so hoping I don't have to have 4 teeth removed around that time. However there's a good chance that I may have to wear regular braces for 3-6 months after the Invisalign treatment.

My mom and dad weren’t crazy about four teeth being pulled out of my mouth, but when the doctor showed that my mouth wasn’t big enough to have all those teeth with all the rest of my teeth, they said yeah go ahead and take them. Apparently have a very small mouth, not enough for all those teeth.

I had to get two canine teeth taken out before I got braces. It took two years for them to fully grow in and looked horrible. I had to get braces for 18 months, but got them taken out exactly a year later, about six months early. I am so grateful that I got braces and it is not as bad as you think.

I got 4 extractions over 2 impacted wisdom ones :( But it was a deserved one, my teeth were very crowded.

I made research before getting brace and one of the ortho told me to remove 4 teeth, i said no he refused to treat me. Then i find one a bit far from home and he saved my teeths i'm almost done it's been alsmot 3 years (i'm an adult)

Can you explain why extraction is still practiced by orthodontists today? I was hesitant in getting the procedure done so I went to get a second opinion from a Harvard maxillofacial surgeon who said it was necessary. So of course, who am I to question his expertise? I’m still undergoing treatment with braces but I can’t help but wonder what if I hadn’t gotten the procedure. I still have doubts but all I can do is trust the process.

Taking teeth out was in my case far from enough, had even to widen my upper jaw to make it fit
