the run to smelter demon almost made me lose my sanity, but the frigid outskirts made me quit the game without killing the two cats

Bloodborne - grinding for healing items
Ds3 - many of the areas looking the same visually
Sekiro - not many flaws maybe the lack of dlc
Elden ring - boss aggression, it’s hard to tell when it’s safe to attack and most of the bosses can be attacking for much longer periods of time.

Worst part about Demon Souls was the light/dark system that made no sense till you read a wiki. The bosses were hard as hell if it was your first Souls game.

The worst in ds2 is being chased indefinitely by every enemy to the start to the end of the map.

The demons souls one ain’t really make sense. I feel like the healing and weight are BY FAR the worst things about the game. While the bosses are simple, they’re honestly pretty decent and unique for the most part imo.

Worst thing in Demon's is 1000% the tendency systems. Unexplained, obtuse, difficult to manage, and can fuck up entire playthroughs.

Tbh when it comes to Demon Souls i would say that the worst feature is weight. They kinda fixed it in a remake but in the original it was absolutly awfull

"Hey we know how much you guys hated the boss run to the first smelter demon, so we made this one way more annoying :)" FromSoft after hitting the pipe one too many times

Ceaseless Discharge is the best boss in the game as far as I'm concerned. He symbolizes what it feels like to see Gwynevere for the first time

Dark Souls 2 design philosphy be like: "we'll put like 10 enemies into one enclosed space on every single level"

I think enemy placement is the biggest issue in DS2, it’s what contributes to the boss runs being awful, but it’s also what makes the core gameplay feel artificially more difficult since 90% of the time you’re getting swarmed by a bunch of enemies with a combat system that feels extremely clunky, especially when compared to its predecessors and succeeders.

I completely erased the smelter demon from my memory. Thanks for reminding me

That run in DS2 DLC was in an optional area specifically designed to be played with summons.

One thing I really, really hated about DS2 as someone that played with a couple of friends was soul memory. It's just an awful mechanic with really narrow categories that you can easily breeze past without realizing. It's also made worse by there not being a way around it.

The number of times one of us just had to stop playing the game so that the others could grind souls in order for us to keep playing together was absurd, it was just a mind numbing waste of time that didn't benefit any part of the experience.

The frozen pony and the blue smelter run are supposed to be co-op areas, they're arranged in a way that accommodates for a whole army, for me those were the most fun parts of the DLCs.

Dont even forget to mention Shrine of Amana for the boss runs in DS2. When I played the game for the first time I decided I would do an all bosses run, but from that point on I gave up on the idea. Demon Of Song was piss easy but walking to it gave me a brain aneurysm.

correction:there is no boss run in ds2. have you ever tried to make the run through the iron keep?

Personally, I LOVED the demon’s souls fights. They all felt distinctly unique and varied from one another. Even in Dark Souls 1, I felt some of the bosses just felt like different character designs all meant for you to bash your face into. Demon’s Souls bosses felt like each one was a unique puzzle and experience for me to learn and apply later in the game. The non-linear structure of the game also helped keep the various styles new and fresh as I tackled each individual area.

Again, just my opinion, but like I said, that originality of just letting the player face a challenge without having to perform flawlessly in a fight is something I really feel was lost in later souls games, in particular with Elden Ring.
