Tobey Maguire deserved an Oscar for this performance.

Toby is my favorite actor and he knocked this role out of the park.

Loved him ever since they were 16 yet kissed his brother while he's off at war and claims she'll leave.... The nerve

For real ptsd is no joke. I contribute it to the end of my marriage. She wasn’t strong enough to deal with my scars and I was to weak to allow them to win.

You know this happened to many servicemen. Betrayal from the ones they love.

What could be worse than this? People thinking you are dead, have to kill your own friend, wife's betrayal, seeing own daughters loving someone else more and you being just a nobody to them, and after all these, the wife still don't tell the truth. Ultimate pain a man can suffer, one who lives after this is just a moving flesh with a dead soul in them. Even thinking about this movie makes me feel helpless, angry, sad, and stuck in loop.

“I love you when I was 16 years old”
But cheated with his brotha 🙄

The fact that she said "You're not going to see me again" pissed me the fuck off. This man is going through obvious issues from war and you say something like that to him?! The selfishness. He shouldn't have wanted to be with her anyway after messing around with his brother...GTFOH

God bless the servicemen.. the pain they’ve endured. Physical or mental. Betrayal. Death. Those guys are my heroes, and they always will be.

Towards the end when the camera pans out and we get a glimpse of the snow and the mountains, it's actually very cleverly shot. It shows that even thousands of miles and across the ocean back home in USA, he brings home the mountains of Afghanistan and his war experiences. He's forever going to live with his actions.

As a soldier you are taught how to kill . When you are in war it's not a matter of queen and country. It's a matter of getting out alive . Kill or be killed . Toby nailed this role . Bradley Cooper in American sniper also nailed the role . Hats off and hearts go out to the person's and people who serve . You make the world a safer place by sacrificing a lot . God bless .

I think its incredibly selfish to paint an ultimatum that your going to leave someone because they won't share with you there struggle this only makes the whole situation even worse

I don't blame him for trying to hide his forced guilt from hell *Kill or Be Killed* it hurts really bad to hide and just by finally answering the question of *why you trying to punish or shame yourself* you end up crying in aching pain from extreme hell. At least he has his girlfriend/Wife to help cry and heal his ruined and shameful aching heart. I felt extremely bad for Samuel going through a horrible phase like that.

Toby definitely did his research for this part and was fully invested. He is displaying someone trying their hardest to push through PTSD pain and dissociation to communicate/connect with others so accurately that as a clinician I would confuse this acting with the real thing. It's scary how talented top tier actors can be given the right characters and material.
