It’s NOT a good idea to retire early. Instead,
position yourself financially to go to work because you WANT to. Not because you need to.

you don't even have to love your job, just not having an asshole boss makes all the difference

Man this video stopped me dead in my tracks because i resonate with everything you're saying and maybe its because im prior military myself and close in age. I was able to basically retire at 40 myself after years of military contracting and hustling saving my money and having everything paid for. So much jealousy and envy from family and friends. Feels lonely as hell while everyone else slaving away at life. The point purpose and reason not having a wife or kids to provide for or a 9 to 5 job to go to every day really can mess With u. Its a catch 22 because while I dont have to work i miss the structure as u stated. I restore my old classic car as a hobby, started a auto detailing business, travel etc but its not enough!!! Damm if u do damm if u dont.. life is a bitch trying to figure out. Thanks for touching on this! 🙏

I think it depends on your personality and what you like to do. I became financially free at 48 and I have been creating Kindle books and other things. I rotate and plan what I do. I basically decided to invest in "me" instead of working for a corporation. Thanks for the video.

Retired 22 years ago at 45, having a blast. But I was having a blast working too. It looks to me like retirement happiness depends on the person. Many people are not very interested in much of anything. The structure of working gives these people something to do. A smaller percentage are interested in many things and fill every day doing something they like...but these people also like working too.

There's a test I heard 55 years ago... If you're happy when you're young, you'll likely be happy when you're old. Unhappy when young, probably unhappy when old.

I took that seriously.

So that’s what it feels like retiring at 70…we’re never happy

Retired at 55, coming up to day 600 and living the dream. I would hate to go back to work 👍

I retired at 56 and keep busy and have a small side gig in landscaping. I'm looking for that structure and a challenge again and even thinking about starting a new trade, I have a pension and debt free but I still need the work environment because I've always had that work ethic.
Well done video, totally makes sense!

I agree completely with you about having a job something to look forward to each and every day

I know exactly how you feel. I don’t have a regular job and you have no one to talk to. No reason to talk to anyone. No excuse to meet new people. When you have a job you are forced to socialize and meet people. The other thing is money. Unless your wealthy you can’t afford to travel the world. So you have enough to not have to work but not enough to do much else. It’s weird. These people who want to retire early are going to find out having nothing to do is hard and boring. It sounds great until it happens.

Ive always felt kinda depressed after mkre than a week off of work. Thats why i know in some ways having to go to a job where im on my feet and physically active is healthier than not going. Hobbies cant substitute for work, at least for me.

I agree- you have to make your own structure I found in order to stay mentally well

Thank you for your video! I appreciate your honesty and vulnerability. However, if I were to retire early, I would volunteer and do something I am passionate about. There is so much to do in the world and give back to.

My crappy boss finally pushed me to early retirement. I will deal with all the boredom and isolation that may follow with my own boss moves.

You need a hobby or multiple hobbies. If you enjoyed fishing for example that would take up more of your time. If you were into the RC Car hobby building RC Cars, racing them, and repairing them would take up a lot of time. Biking even E biking in parks would take up more time. You can spend more time at the gym and live a healthier life, and tone muscle on your body. You can find plenty of things to do with all the time off you have. A "9 to 5" is is not necessarily what you need. You can also take up more of your time part time with a side hustle. I work 40-45 hours a week, but I don't have a traditional 9 to 5. I am working a 4 day work week 10+ hours per night 6:30 pm to 5 am at the moment. Then I DJ wedding and events like 30 weekends out of the year. So I work a good bit, but I have had periods in life where I did not work a W-2 Job, and I LOVED being leisurely. However, the down side was the financial side. I was barely scrounging to keep the bills paid with just my DJ Business. I have been "alone" for a long time. All my "Friends" disappeared over a decade ago, and I'm 42. I do have 1 best friend that I talk to over the phone like 6 or 7 times a year. But honestly, we have only seen each other in person ONCE in the last 5 years. The last time we went out and "hung out" was in like 2012. Once he got married hanging out ended. We don't hang out at all any more. That is life. People get caught up with their families after the age of 29/30 or so, and don't talk to their friends any more. Then some people get into groups and make friends in their old age/senior citizen years. The age range of 30 to 60ish is pretty lonely for the vast majority of men. I'm used to it myself. The only reason I work a W2 full time job is for finances. Once my son is out of high school and on his own standing, I do not plan to continue to work full time employment into my 60s.

"you need structure" agreed, but as a successful FIRE retiree from 36 the key is having the ability to make your own structure rather than allowing external systems, who don't have your best interests at heart, to do it for you

I’m 62 and retired from the military. I could retire from my current job right now. However you nailed it when you said needing structure. Plus I love my job and the people I work with. It’s a very stress free job. So I will probably work a few more years.
