I Can’t Buy AMD Anymore - Nvidia RTX HDR Update
I don’t think I can consider buying an AMD graphics cards anymore, despite them being better value… Let’s talk about it.

So recently Nvidia dropped a pretty huge update and everyone’s been talking about the new control panel which is actually really great as it’s much faster, simpler, requires no login, and consolidates everything Nvidia into one interface, but as cool as that is, honestly it was long overdue and I’m not giving out brownie points for joining the modern era with AMD and their adrenaline software.

No that’s not what this video is about. This video is about a new feature Nvidia brought. RTX HDR. Today we test Nvidia's new RTX HDR feature to see if it's worth buying an Nvidia GPU for this feature.

I have been with NVIDIA for a long time. Took them a long time to update their software. Last year I switched to team RED after a long time and although there were issues in the beginning, I am pretty happy I switched. I don't care for raytracing at the moment. What I do care about is good value for the price and NVIDIA products are just insanely expensive. I also will mention that NVIDIA's SURROUND is really bad compared to AMD's Eyefinity; I have 3 monitors and to be able to switch from 1 monitor to 3 monitors for games (depending on the game) is very nice. With NVIDIA upcoming RTX 5000 series, prices will be more insane than ever and really don't feel like rewarding them with my money, I will wait to see what RDNA 5 brings, for now I'm pretty happy with my Sapphire 7900 XTX Nitro+.

To me who just switched to team red this month (7800 XT), I really don't think RTX HDR is that big of a deal. Sure, it's cool to make games look better, but so is Nvidia's ray reconstruction technology. The big question is: If we want to keep this new feature activated at all cost, how much less price to performance do you get with an Nvidia card compared to AMD? At this point it feels more like you no longer have to look at what performance you get out of a new GPU from Nvidia or AMD, but mainly about what experience do you want:
Higher fps per dollar? Go red!
More visual pleasure per dollar? Go green!

That said, I do congratulate everyone of you who's currently on team green (whether it's voluntarily or bc you can't afford an upgrade) on the new Nvidia app! The software side of things was one reason for me to go red and I have no regrets so far and I'm absolutely in love with Adrenaline❤ Still, I gotta admit that even if it's just a beta atm, that stuff looks damn cool as well! Finally Nvidia seems to care about their software side of things... Took them long enough😂

The 4090 is obsolete garbage. I threw mine in the dumpster and preordered a 5090 for $5000 for 10% more performance and a bigger cooler.

I dont understand. You "sold" your 4090 to go to AMD because of audio issues and display compatibility issues... now Nvidia updates their software suite, and adds RTX HDR and you jump ship back to Nvidia. I get click bait works because, well we are all here, but come on man! You cant be this obvious about it...

The only plus that RTX HDR has is that it can be used on older games with DX11 or lower, the rest is handled perfectly by windows auto-hdr option
Also the RTX HDR option in the new Nvidia settings app is half-baked, if you have 2 monitors, one with HDR and one without, the RTX HDR option will disapair until u unplug the Non-HDR monitor

In Australia I paid 1500 for a 7900xtx, 4090 is 3000. So amd is worth it Imo

95% of "HDR" monitors are not capable of true HDR....

I'm too poor to own a proper HDR monitor, so this just means nothing to me at this point in time. I'll get more actual gaming performance from AMD for less money...so a good feature for folks who have the money to spend but meaningless for a lot of others.

Dude played you all for fools. Update drops yesterday and he mystically already has a 4090 and done testing, etc etc etc.

Dude tried the 7900xtx and got rid of it, farming yall for clicks.

Once again NVidia shows why they cost at least 10% more. It's a story as old as, since they crushed 3DFx and then bought them out.

I think when HD first came out it was 720p and everyone was blown away by it. Then 1080p and everyone was blown away by it. Next comes 4k and now 720p is crap! Now HDR is all the rage. To me its all marketing hype, but i appreciate that people do get excited about the latest thing.

Well, that's too late I just bought a 7900 xtx sapphire pulse.

As both a multiple Nvidia RTX 4000 series GPU one and 4K HDR IPS monitor owner, (in addition to a 4K OLED) I’m happy to see this Nvidia HDR software being made available to a heap more games, new and old 🥳🥰💪👍. Nvidia thou, now has to be kept on its toes to help justify their gpus price premium by offering more software to make use of their Tensor and Ray Tracing cores to offer a much better experience going forward.

**NOTE** I just extensively tested the RTX HDR, i do NOT recommend it. Firstly. you can NOT have 2 monitors connected (or more than 1) Secondly, at least in the game i tested it in, which does not have its own HDR, and i have been using Windows Auto HDR for a long time. the windows HDR looks better. RTX HDR makes the characters faces look Ghostly. its boosting the wrong colors or weird detection of what to highlight and to what level. the AI needs better training etc. in fact you can do something cool and lower the "Grey Mids" slider all the way to 1, and see what exactly its highlighting and detecting as needs HDR boosts.

Comparing the 2, Windows Auto >
and also im not leaving my 2nd monitor unplugged to continue to use it, even IF it was the same quality or even better quality. that has to be a bug or something they figure out. this can not be for single monitor users only....

I have a BenQ EX2710U and a 7900XTX and have had no problems with HDR. The screen looks beautiful, although I'm not a graphics professional.

This is actually the reason I'm going with a 4070 super over a 7900 gre. I plan on hooking it up to my hdr tv which i also purchased recently, and have been blown away by! Currently I have a series x and use the auto hdr on most games if it doesn't have hdr baked into it. And most of the time the otter waged yard looks pretty good. I'm getting a pc because I wanna upgrade my experience and honestly without hdr, it might be a downgrade.

I got a 1440p 144hz monitor few months ago with an add-on hdr10 feature. I see this as an absolute W now.
Dldsr+Dlss+HDR feels like I'm playing on a 4k OLED tv.
Also for me HDR is much better than raytracing visually.
