Heya everyone and Merry Christmas! Today we're going over Firewood, Medicine, and Crafting Materials! This ended up being much longer than I had predicted but I hope you all enjoy! Next we'll be covering cooking recipes!

EDIT: I made some more errors, sorry I keep doing this :(
First, coal weighs 0.3 kg not 0.2 kg
Second, my Fahrenheit temps were all 32 higher than they should've been for some reason.
Sorry about that!

Hi Starz, Important game mechanic about Reishi and Rose hip tea, the medicinal effect occures while finishing the drink. So you can drink 90% of the water it contains and by cancelling a litle bit before you finish drinking, you save a 0.01kg weight medecine

Per the firewood topic, I would highly recommend always carrying at least one book that you can burn if your fire starting skill is less than 3 on pretty much all difficulties. Nothing worse then getting caught in a situation where you need a fire and keep failing to start the said fire.

While a book at first glance is heavy at 0.5 KG, you end up in the long run saving weight by not having to carry nearly as much tinder on you. Always having a single book and at least a single accelerant in my inventory has saved me numerous times. Both when used simultaneously should guarantee a fire on the spot (even at level 1 fire starting).

Good video but one counter argument. In voyager I always bring 1-2 sticks. If you get caught in some cold weather it's nice to be able to quickly make a fire, heat up a drink for a warmth bonus, then have 5-6 minutes to warm and plan my exit strategy to shelter.

The fahrenheit temperature for the firewood is wrong. All of the numbers are 32 higher than they should be. Also, each chunk of coal weighs 0.3kg, not 0.2. It's also not that rare if you know where to look. A single walk through one of the mines will usually net you 20+ pieces of coal, at least on Stalker. Also, even on stalker I'd say it's good practice to keep at least 1 piece of coal on you at all times, unless you have top-tier clothing. A single piece of coal puts out 20C (36F), and burns for an hour, and it's saved my runs more times than I can count.

You're definitely earning the subs with these videos. I'll echo others and say that even with all the years and hours played, I'm still picking up new ideas and bits of learning from your videos. Sometimes, I think we've had things stuck in our heads for so long that we haven't re-evaluated them in a while and your presentation is short and concise, so gets through the clutter.

I would personally recommend carrying around 5 cloth and 15 sticks. You can use the cloth for repairs and the fuel for emergency fire fuel, but you can also them to make a snow shelter. A snow shelter at the right time can absolutely save your run. and it helps that I always have fuel.

Super cool video, but i want to share some of my thoughts.
First of all - i always carry kit for emergency fire, it include one piece of coal, one stick and one accelerant. It doesn't weigh a lot but it can easily save your life or at least make it easier. (Ex. you fall through thin ice, your base is quite far and the weather is shit, i don't know what to do without this kit)
Second thing - if i know i will go to hard raid and will get back with a lot of loot, i take just enough water and meat, to get me to that location. For they way back, since i will carry a lot of loot, i always prioritise teas and snacks instead of water and other food. Teas hydrate you 2 times better than water (hydr/kg), have useful effects (like coffe or acorns coffee) and can be warmed up.
I also try to always carry at least one cup of coffee, since in my opinion, it probably is the most useful consumable in the game, since warm coffee give you warm, hydration, fatigue, and a bit of calories.
That's it, and please, if you see this keep making videos! They are amazing, already waiting for next one.
P.s. sorry if i had any mistakes, i am still learning)

For old man's beard, you can carry only one, and a few extras as materials (which weighs a little bit less), since it's not super common to need multiple doses in quick succession, and infection risk is generally the less urgent problem you're facing if you have it.

One thing at 6:38 for the canisters: I would really recommened NOT bringing them at all to Blackrock's gold mine. The suffocation risk area is so beyond small and you've got a huge amount of time to get through it, not to mention there's a rest area in the middle of it to let you breathe. Save all your canisters for the Langston Mine and use them as sparingly as possible.

Great vid as usual Starz! A helpful thing to note with OMB dressings; three raw old man’s beards weigh 0.03 kg, whereas the single dressing crafted from those three weighs 0.1 kg. Generally better to keep the latter three uncrafted if you’re looking to maximize carry weight and can spare the time to craft. Merry Christmas!

My thoughts: Regarding the cloth I'd even recommend 5, in case you go into a Zone you're not familiar with.
If you're caught in a Blizzard and don't know your way around or where the next safe space is to seek cover, a snow shelter would be a good option in an emergency situation.

Anybody miss the days when you could combine bandages with the moss and the combined weight would be lower. Those were so nice.

Do a video on what regions are best to spawn at and/or use as long term safe houses considering their locations and access to other nearby regions

500+ hours in TLD and this video still is very educational, the tea percentages shocked me lol great job on the channel and congrats for 1k subs, thrilled to be a part of the community <3

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but the teas don't deteriorate in quality. I find them much easier to carry than their 'manufactured' counterparts.
Great video series, thank you!

I personally always carry 5 cloths at least as that provides me with the most options. Snow shelters for blizzards, bandages and of course repairs
