Mick Mars might be one of the greatest 80’s heavy metal guitarists of all time. He’s in no small part credited for pioneering the hard rock and metal sounds of LA. And believe it or not, Mick was inspired at the age of three to take up guitar by the country music singer Skeeter Bonn.

From that early exposure to music, Mick Mars defined his life with his musical skills until he ultimately helped found the heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. But it hasn’t always been good times for the guitarist. From a crippling spinal disorder to substance abuse problems, Mars has faced more than his fair share of life challenges. Let’s take a look at the untold truth of Mötley Crüe’s Mick Mars.

Couple points to clear up.

Mick Mars urged Tommy and Nicki to accept Vince as the lead singer, we didn't mean to infer that he was the sole reason Vince joined.

Also, We didn't get into the whole Mick Mars birthday controversy. Mars real birthdate is probably 1951, but for years professionally he used 1955 as his birth year. Sorry about those points and we'll be sure to be more clear in the future!

Mick is the only member of Crüe that I have any respect for. He raised those three boys all on his own the best that he could.

Mick is the heart and soul of Motley Crue. Without him, there is no Motley

I knew MC in the early 80s when they were coming up.
Mick was always a nice guy and also funny. One night upstairs at the Troubador in Hollywood, Mick gave me a stainless steel pick. He said "you wanna play metal you gotta' use metal". I still have it.
That's just my two cents. Peace.

Mick Mars is the reason Motley Crue exists! It was his energy that made the band famous. Mick's determination was key!

Truly a criminally underrated guitarist, basically because you don't hear about him doing crazy things just for popularity!🤘🤘🤘

He’s the secret weapon of MC. Beautiful, heavy chords and melodic solos that separated Crue from fly by night bands of the 80s. He elevated the songs to another level.

The man has accomplished a lot with all his physical and mental health problems, not to mention the addictions as well. He's a trooper.

I respect Mick because, I’ve had spinal issues since I was 19 I’m 61 today and always in pain. His bravery to keep going through the pain is not an easy thing. My son was diagnosed with what Mick has. It’s heartbreaking to watch your child barely walking some days and in so much pain.

Mick Mars is one of the greatest guitar players ever and he definitely doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Such an amazing and awesome guy as well. He plays in pain a lot and he still goes on. That is a true Rock Star. Mick helped write the songs as well and just show’s just how much Mick is such a major talent. I know that he has to live with pain daily and that makes me so sad. Thank you Mick for all the amazing year’s you gave us and thank you for caring so much about your Fan’s.We love and adore you Mick.❤️❤️❤️

Not a Motley Crüe fan specifically, but a musician and appeciator of all the musics ... I also have Ankylosing Spondylitis and had to have my hips replaced in my 20s. Mars has all of my deepest respect and well wishes. This disease is awful... and a lot of days, just getting out of bed is a miracle and feat of super strength.

I met Mick Mars 20 years ago when he was in Charlotte for a Scifi convention and was totally what you would expect from him. Just a cool, nice laid back kind a guy that had no issues talking to fans and signing autographs. I hope he is fairing ok with his health issues of late.

I'm more of a Metallica and Megadeth kind of guy but Mars always stood out for me, a superb riff master. Finding out about the difficulties he has faced (and his age!!) makes me respect him even more.

I truly Admire Mick for continuing to play professionaly and continued touring. As a person who has scoliosis, severe arthritis and lives in pain every day for the past 20 years, he is remarkable. I have have had 2 spinal surgeries L5-S1, L-2, 3, 4. And both hips replaced. That is true pain. Keep going Mick!👍🥰

I love Mick Mars, greatest member of Motley Crue. He is such an underrated guitar player and never had the big rock star attitude. I can't wait for his solo album to finally come out.

Saw them recently on their ‘22 stadium tour. He still fkn kills it at 67 years old. The camera operators were very careful to never show his face for more than a split second, instead zooming in on his guitar work up close. Living legend IMO

I'm glad they did not get rid of him. Obviously, it would have been a mistake.
