Stranger gives us his 4x4 to travel Australia - EP 103

This is a NEW continent on our WORLD TOUR JOURNEY: we have finally made it to Australia! Vegemite on toast, flies in the eyes, red dirt on the road sides, sleeping under the stars in an Aussie Swag…

In this episode we go for the full Australian camp set up to explore the South Western coast of the country.

The journey begins as we land in Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Almost 60 days ago we put our Land Rover Defender, our home on wheels in a container from Uruguay to Australia. As we fly to Oz we learn that the container is delayed and are left with extra days on our hands. No way we stay running in circles in the big city. We did not come all the way across the world to sit still. We are hosted by the most generous and welcoming friend of the channel, Frans, who opened his home as if we were family. Frans also saved the day when he offered to lend us his 4x4 and camping set up for our little adventure to the South. With his help we were ready for our first Australian adventure!

We love trying a different set up for once. What a change from the Albatross! With our Western Australia plate, our "ute" (pickup truck in Australia) and our "swag" (cocoon-shaped tent from Australia) we feel more local than ever. We take-off to discover the endless roads of the desert and the gorgeous coastline of the South West: Hyden, Billion Beach, Esperance, Lucky Beach, Wharton Beach.

So pleased with the real map idea! I LOVE maps. Nothing is like a weathered map, so as a book, well read and travelled ❤ One can read and watch so much about Australia, but discovering it through your eyes is going to be absolutely fantastic. It is getting so real! Thank you!

It is so heartwarming to see such open, friendly, trusting people like Frank, who offered you the use of his 4 x 4 for a week. Maybe it sounds incredible at first, but I believe that many many people in the world are like this. We have just forgotten sometimes how to trust each other because of all the bad press that we are fed. Beautiful oceans. unfortunately the Rip currents in Australia are very strong, narrow seaward flowing currents that start from the shoreline and can take you quickly out through the surf and a short distance beyond the breaking waves. Rip currents are one of the greatest, and most common, hazards on Australian beaches. On average, rip currents are responsible for at least many drownings deaths in Australia each year. You also have a lot of sharks, I hope you get to enjoy those beautiful oceans in the land downunder!

Yay! Australia! How kind of your host to lend you his vehicle!! Those beaches wow! Travel music ~ perfect! So very happy to see the map. My mother was a professional cartographer, drafting maps by hand, so I learned very young how to read (and fold ~ ha ha) a map, and I have a particular fondness for them. My traveling friends and I used them as wall decor pinpointing places we visited. Excited to virtually explore Australia through your upcoming videos.😊

I am based in Tom Price and happy if you need a place to stay. I reached out a few weeks ago but I am happy to show you around the Pilbara and or provide directions to some of the best spots. Although we didn't have alot of rain this year there are still some amazing places inland worth visiting
