Joni is a genius and one of the all time great songwriters. She's also beautiful with a phenomonal voice. A true legend. Brad nailed his commentary perfectly because Joni started in the folk scene of the 60's and later was very jazz influenced. So many great songs but for her jazzier stuff check out the song Hejira with the late great bassist Jaco Pastorius. It's magical.

After suffering an aneurysm a few years ago and losing much of her speech, she worked at regaining her speaking and singing abilities. She made such a tremendous comeback that she was able to perform a few songs at Newport Folk Festival. Amazing spirit! Maybe next Joni song you could do a live performance, her 1970 show was full of great hits!

Dude, you nailed it: she came from a folk, "hippie", flower child fused it with a more jazzy approach, pretty much starting with this album. LOVED this reaction, I think this is a "perfect" song and a perfect record.

Joni is one of the hardest people to play on the guitar. She uses all these weird chords tunings in time signatures that you rarely see other people use.

That whole album - Court & Spark - is a masterpiece. It really is. Many of the songs are meditations on life, love & art, but there are fun tracks too - my favourite is the closing track, her version of an old jazz number called Twisted, really light & witty.

Joni is an amazing song writer and musician. She used mainly jazz musicians on her albums, which gives them that cool, laid back sound. Joni is also the number 75 on Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists of all times.

IMO, Joni is THE greatest singer/songwriter/musician of the past 60 yrs (too bad Robert Zimmerman!), in multiple genres ranging from folk and pop to world and jazz... Thanks very much Joni, for being the soundtrack of so many of our lives.
