There’s nothing more satisfying than logging your workouts and seeing you have progressively improved. I approve!

I will add that if progress isn’t being made, it is more likely from overtraining than under-training. The common workout system today is 3 sets, 5-6 exercises, 4-5 days per week which can easily lead to overtraining if you are pushing each set. I would recommend decreasing your sets/exercises/days at the gym and see what happens. For me, I was stuck doing 225 for 6 on squat for years (pretty much all other exercises were halted too, just using squat as an example). A couple months ago I dramatically decreased my sets/exercises/days at the gym from the amount I mentioned earlier to 2 days/week, 2 exercises per session, and 1 set per exercise and increased my squat to 225 for 10 reps. Like Sean was saying, I’m not sure how much muscle was actually gained, but I gained 4 reps on that exercise which is significant for me. Not to mention injuries I had have dissipated and I have more energy during the week.

Body dysmorphia is a crazy thing. Everyone tells me I look great and congratulating me, meanwhile I’m cussing myself out in the mirror 🤣

Take progress pics! I’ve been stagnant gaining weight lately, it’s hard pushing past 265lbs without eating sooo damn much. But looking at pics from 3 months ago when I was also “265lbs” but had more fat on me and I feel better about where I’m at.

I log my progress, and I gotta say it's so satisfying to see the progress made session to session. Even if it's just a rep or two. Owe my success to you Sean. Thanks!

Yes!! For the past few months or so now I've been logging my workouts and I'm so glad i did. I'm able to now visibly see the progress from week to week/month to month. Helps keep u much more organized and it's a great confidence boost to see u are on the right track and are indeed making progress. Super helpful.

Its true, discovering Hevy was a game changer. Building your routines and fine tuning over the time and measuring progress is essential. Every 1 or 2 workouts sessions I can see increase of at 1 or 2 reps and thats what aim to do until I can add more weight.

If something is not improving than you dig and find out whats wrong much earlier than without using any app. Before tracking all this working out was pure frustration.

I started working out last spring, and I took a monthly progress picture. After the first couple months it was so discouraging that I decided to just stop doing that and I’ve been so much more motivated since. I love the HEVY app for tracking my workouts.

I keep my workouts logged in a notebook. When I start to feel like I'm not progressing or have an off day I flip to the first page. Usually gets my head on straight.

So true, I write down each set, weight, and reps and always aim for at least 1 more rep. I have the last workout next to the current one, and if you have a calendar on the wall and you have to draw a sad face if you didn't go and missed a day, it really helps, 😂you start to hate sad faces and you get incentified when you look at the wall and all you can see is big ticks and LEGS, UPPER BODY, ARMS.😊LEGS, UPPER

Easy way to do this is to choose a weight that you can only do 8-10 reps and when you can do 12-15 reps you upper the weight till you can only do 8-10 and repeat

And if it's calisthenics you should get more reps and then progress to harder exercises

I totally agree. Even though I can’t see gains, I know they’re happening because I am successfully adding one rep per set in a continuous manner over time. This motivates me to keep lifting. Besides, adding reps/weight/sets is a thrill in itself.

Love this because I haven't seen a ton of change and don't take pics for progress but carry a log around constantly. And I'm much stronger 💪

I log my workouts in a composition book during my cool down. It usually takes less than the 3 min I allow myself to rest. It’s helped my target my working weight whenever performing a new exercise and helps me remember how I performed in my previous workout with regard to an exercise that I routinely do. It also helps me know how much of an increase in weight I can experiment with.

Needed this. Motivation through logic.

Agreed but periodic body composition analysis works well as confirmation
