CONARC 49C 7018 rods are primarily sold internationally but while I was visiting Lincoln electric headquarters at worldskills 2022, I ran across some small Sahara packs (vacuum sealed) of CONARC 49C rods so Andrew Cardin welded while I held the camera.

We compared both CONARC 49C and Excalibur 7018 rods along with a tip or two on restarts.

I used to love Excalibur but I've started to really like the esab atom arc 7018...seems to run smoother and slag comes off easier than the lincoln in my opinion

Lincoln, ESAB and Böhler all have great 7018 products. Some lower tier, some upper tier, all for different market segments. I don't have a preference myself, as long as it's from one of the reputable brands, it's much of a muchness for me. You just make them work for you. Keep up the good videos Jody. Long time follower.

Great video Jody, the information, explanation, and examples of welding were awesome. Even this OLD DAWG enjoyed watching . Some day I will get enough welding done to lay a bead like that. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred.

My favorite E7018 was one of the first E7018's [ invented circa 1947 by Lincoln] It is LH-70. The much vaunted Excalibur was developed for pipe welding, it has a thinner coating, less slag, many like it. Lincoln LH-70 IS THE ONLY E7018 THAT MEETS MILITARY STANDARDS in the Lincoln E7018 family of rods. Excaliber, LH78, LH73, 7018AC DO NOT meet mil. stds.

I love Hobart 7018. Wets in and is really smooth out of position

I honestly prefer Hobart 7018. I have been having all sorts of issues with Excalibur flux falling off the past year.

ESAB is the best for me, we are running 8018 high pressure pipe, 100% x rays. Some of the other welders like Excalibur.Personal Preference.Good video Sir👍🏻

We use the conarc 49c here in south Australia for low temp pipework in the gas fields not really my favourite rod but thats what there procedure calls for

I like Excalibur for the easy slag removal but I have noticed porosity on some re-starts. My rods are getting a little old now so that’s probably where the porosity is coming from.

This was like 11 years ago mind you. While in welding school, a vendor gave us some iirc .045 FCAW wire and 1/8 7018 from a company called bohler that i liked.

My fav is Esab OK48.00, it's 7018 equivalent but it's used here in EU for most of applications including pipe root pass.

Love the Excalibur, runs smooth, good bite, and of course the slag removal. Back with Hatfield Electric 30 plus years ago, would beg for 7018 for certain applications. Welding and fabbing brackets for riser runs and electrical fixtures the shop would only send out “5P” good ole 6010. Welder was an old Lincoln 3 phase vertical bullet, painted school bus yellow, our company color with a Blue HE painted on it. 7018 woulda been nice for the flat runs and some fillets, but the shop must have had stock in 5P. Always cleaned up the welds good, and sprayed them with cold galv. Great times with a great outfit! You sure bring back memories, JODY. Much appreciated. Truly like now I’m retirement, occasionally pick up a side hustle, that I can use my own Excalibur 7018, that I bought. 😉. Like to get my hands on that European rod and give it a go.! Thank you JODY🙏

Excalibur has never done me wrong but for what it costs you would think it's gold plated. If I'm buying the rod anymore I use that Hobart 7018. it's cheap and runs smooth as butter.. No complaints

I'm often use Swedish ESAB OK48.00 due to the lack of Lincoln rods on local market. As for me, they are very good. Would be great to see your comparison of these rods and Lincoln. Thanks.

Can you please make comparing video between Lincoln excalibur and Böhler analog of 7018 with the same guy behind the electrode holder, because he is killing it! We don't see much Lincoln electrodes here in Europe and i'm curious about behavioral differences of the rods, restarts, slag peeling and bead appearance. Thank you for everything you are doing for the community and the trade Jody! God bless you!

The V205 is a machine built by Selco in Italy, you can still get them, it's just the newer version.
Bohler Fox or ESAB for 7018-1 rods for me 👌🏻

I use Conarc 49C often and like this electrode. Excalibur in Poland I have not yet met on wholesalers. CONARC 49C is stable and when properly stored, hermetic packaging is brilliant and works. In fact, the nuisance of descaling in the case of fillets occurs, but with subsequent stitches it detaches itself. It doesn't bother me, I use a needle scaler always and everywhere - if possible. And quite seriously, I weld with Lincoln, Esab, Bohler, Oerlikon, Castolin Eutectic products and each of them has its leading products selected for a specific task. Regards
