A rather lengthy rant about the Linux community, and the free and open source community in general, being toxic and divisive. Are there ways to fix this problem? Leave your toughts and suggestions in the comments.

The general tenor of this video is quite negative. You have been warned.

Thank you for saying this. I think the largest reason Linux isn’t competing with Windows besides the usual legalities, software issues..ect. Is that people in the community don’t want to see Linux become mainstream, and commercially viable. I tried Linux every other month and I get nothing but shitposts when asking for help. I subbed for your courage to speak against the grain.

Great video. When I was new to Linux I had trouble with Wi-Fi drivers. A mod on the official Ubuntu forums told me "I don't think you should be using Linux if you can't solve this issue on your own.". The resulting argument got me banned. Lots of people like Linux because it's obscure and finicky. It leads to an elitist attitude. It puts noobs off joining in the community. Until the support is improved for the major Linux/GNU distros people will be put off using them.

Y'all OS noobs are missing out. I run my games on BIOS.

I've always sticked to windows because of how arrogant and elitist the Linux community seemed to me. Of course not everyone is, but it really pushed me away.

Thanks for taking the time to make a video on this subject. It needs to be addressed and you laid out the issues very well.

This has been a problem since the 90s and I think it's the main reason we are still stuck at 2% market share.

About as far as I get into the Linux community is watching channels like yours. I've used Ubuntu for years... And I stick with it because it works.

Totally agree with your comments. 68 years old, new to Linux, memory not what it used to be, so need all the help I can get.

"Telling someone to read the manual. Why did you even bother typing that?" ... Best quote ever

I only recently moved to making Linux my primary host OS on my daily driver. I already get crap because I am using Mint and not something more difficult to use, which makes zero sense to me. I have been using Windows since 3.1.1 for workgroups, of course I want the easiest to adapt to distro for me. I am trying to get work done, not prove how nerdy I can be by using a harder to use distro because it is "cool". Some of us actually want to get work done, not mess around trying to make a distro work. Thank you for this video, it is spot on.

i dont understand why some people are toxic towards new users. If someone is asking a question about something and you know the answer.. Why dont just give the answer right away instead of being toxic?! f*ing keyboard warriors think that they are something on the web because they use Arch..

I'm glad you made this video. Especially the points about the RTFM cliche and general IT-elitism, i.e. those people who think that if you didn't build your own kernel or something, you can't hack it in the community. I'm a fellow Ubuntu user, and no matter how many distros I've played with, both easy and not-so-easy, I always go back to Ubuntu because I know I'm guaranteed stability, maintenance, compatibility, and convenience. People shouldn't be called noobs because they want to use a computer for useful work rather than spend hours in /etc trying to find that magic line to edit. If I'm in a chat or forum and see elitist talk, I always try to call them out. We were all new to Linux once, and if the question is something that comes easy to you, just answering it and helping someone out on their path to free software should be a joy and a prerogative. Love your videos, here's wishing to many more!

thanks man. i'm a Linux noob and have been watching your [and several other Linux] channel to learn a bit. i have plenty of time to listen to videos, but not much time to read due to work constraints. i greatly appreciate your views, even when i disagree with them [in several of your other videos], and i respect your honesty and obvious passion for Linux and it's community.
